JUST IN: Multiple campaign events for Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner have been canceled as a Politico report accuses him of sexual assault.
A Maine woman told the outlet Platner assaulted her five years ago while the two were intoxicated. Platner denied the allegation, saying any accusation of non-consensual behavior is "categorically untrue."
The campaign has not offered a broader explanation for the canceled appearances beyond one organizer saying Platner was "not feeling well."
The developments come ahead of a key deadline in Maine's Senate race. If Platner formally withdraws as the Democratic nominee by July 13, the Maine Democratic Party can replace him on the general election ballot by selecting a new nominee through its party process, with the replacement required to be chosen by July 27.
