Mrs K/Mrs W’s 1st grade Ss presented their animal habitat exhibits with virtual guests Mr. O’Sullivan (from Bear Mt Zoo) and Ms. Resanovich (animal expert). Using info they learned through their #PBL experience, they gave the guests some ideas to think about using in a real zoo!
Big news! Mrs K and Mrs W’s 1st grade Ss have completed their animal chapter books and are ready for their first delivery. They will now receive the first of two drop offs containing material needed to build model animal shelters for Bear Mt. Zoo. @SuffernCSD#PBL@MontebelloPta
BIG news for Mrs K./Mrs W’s 1st grade Ss as their animal journals were reviewed and they ALL achieved junior zookeeper status! As part of a ceremony honoring their hard work, they each received a zoologist vest symbolizing their advancement to the next phase in this project 🎉
PSA: Stop saying that you teach ‘the low kids.’ There are no low kids. Maybe low support, maybe low learning environments, maybe low curriculum and maybe even low teaching. But, there. Are. No. Low. Kids.
Zoo designers in Mrs K and Mrs W’s class were visited today by Environmental Educator Mr. Chris O’Sullivan (from Bear Mountain State Park). He taught us valuable information that Ss can use to add to their Junior zookeeper journals. #PBL@MontebelloEagle@ELLexchange 🐻
No sitting “EEKK” this year. Not going to lie, partner reading in K -hybrid style-is a challenge! Today wasn’t perfect, but we are celebrating progress! #smallvictories @MontebelloEagle @KristiGuinness
If you can’t bring the kids to the zoo, bring the zoo to the kids! #PBL entry event/virtual zoo tour as Ss,led by Mrs K and Mrs W, get excited when they learn they will work in groups to redesign Bear Mt. Zoo creating spaces that emulate animals natural habitat @MontebelloEagle
Something special happened with the 1st-grade class at @MontebelloEagle last night - a celebration of their poetry unit, "The Music in our Hearts" turned into a concert of words and music. Check it out! #MountiePride#SuffernCentral@ELLexchange

“There is no exhaustive how-to list for equity because equity work is never quite finished. The key to providing equitable distance learning opportunities for all students is to recognize what this looks like for each student’s unique situation.”

Guys!! This book is THE BOMB 💣 to have w/ a SEL newcomer book. We started reading it this week, a page a day, and have had so many insightful conversations come up about feelings of moving here, losing their native language, etc. Strongly recommend!! 🔥🔥#Ellchat_BkClub#SEL
We are reading fiction and thinking deeply. As students grow big ideas about the characters and themes in their books, they’ll jot them on a post it and add it to their bubble. Love the way interactive boards create engagement and a sense of purpose.
