Hundreds of members of the Kuki community staged a protest rally across Manipur's Kangpokpi district, demanding the immediate release of three community leaders arrested in connection with the July 11 Leimakhong incident.

Organised by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), the protesters alleged selective action by security forces against Kuki civil society leaders and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen seeking the unconditional release of the detainees.

The demonstration concluded peacefully under heavy security deployment.

The KukiCommunity urgently appeals to the Government of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of Manipur, and all concerned authorities to immediately introduce helicopter services between Kangpokpi District and Churachandpur District as an emergency humanitarian measure.

According to concerns raised by the Kuki community, the continued disruption of road connectivity and the economic blockade have created immense hardship for civilians. The Kuki community alleges that NSCN-IM, ZUF (Kamson Group), and foreign armed elements identified as the Shan National Army/Junta military are operating in parts of the hill districts, creating fear and insecurity that has made many civilians afraid to travel by road.

The Kuki community states that patients, students, women, children, elderly citizens, government employees, and ordinary families are facing serious difficulties in accessing hospitals, educational institutions, workplaces, and other essential services. Many civilians no longer feel safe travelling through vulnerable routes due to security concerns. Helicopter connectivity has therefore become an urgent humanitarian necessity.

The KukiCommunity respectfully urges the Government of India to treat this matter as an emergency. Immediate helicopter services between Kangpokpi District and Churachandpur District would provide a safe and reliable means of transportation for civilians until normal road movement can be restored with adequate security.

The KukiCommunity also appeals to the Government of India to ensure the uninterrupted movement of essential commodities, strengthen security across vulnerable areas, and take all necessary measures to protect innocent civilians. Every citizen has the right to safe movement, access to healthcare, education, and essential services without fear.
