A reminder that states spend over $1.7 billion every year on standardized testing.

$1.7 BILLION that could go to hire more teachers and counselors, more resources, or increase teacher pay.

@eventbrite super annoyed that we can’t get our payout for our event. We’ve tried requesting through the event page, tried requesting by email, and tried calling... no response - the money that you’re holding onto belongs to high school juniors

@Mcoaty I tell my students that is the policy before they do a retake BUT I’ve never actually lowered a student’s grade, I usually talk to them and tell them this is a one time pass on the rule

#Educators, we need to work to make sure that people understand that Ss have been "learning" for the last year! Perhaps not in the "traditional" view "school" is, but then "school" wasnt working for all Ss anyway. Time to #change the #discussion! Thanks to @torreytrust for this.

How do we make this happen? Slowing down this year has been good for my students

Imagine if universities said “We will no longer look at math classes K-12 students take after Algebra 2 when making admission decisions.” What would happen? Well I imagine that schools would start to wonder why they’re doing this mad dash for calculus and slow down.

Two random ideas for ending/reducing math acceleration in K-12 schools:
- change university requirements (this recently happened with SAT/ACT scores)
- rename high school math classes

Tbh we need to stop thinking about forcing kids and teachers back into buildings this school year and start planning, collaboratively and realistically, for SY21-22. We need to channel resources and energy NOW lest we go through another year of uncertainty and frustration.
