A ton of recycled smartphones contains more gold per ton than typical gold ore.
A ton of mixed scrap is worth what you can sort it into.
Same problem. Same answer — portable XRF.
See us at E-Waste World & Metal Recycling Expo, Frankfurt, 17–18 June. Booth D135.
Tantalum (Ta, 73) — named after a Greek figure cursed to thirst beside water he couldn't drink.
The chemist who isolated it in 1802 chose the name because tantalum refuses to react with anything — even acids that dissolve almost everything else.
It's also in every smartphone you've ever owned.

Euro-6 diesel allows 10 ppm of sulfur. Most analyzers can confirm whether your sample meets that limit. ElvaX S Lab detects down to 2 ppm — and analyzes chlorine, zinc, calcium, and barium with the same instrument, no separate calibrations, no second device.
New video on our YouTube channel walks through the full workflow on real samples: calibration selection, diesel fuel analysis, oil sample testing start to finish.
Behind the speed: a high-resolution SDD detector with DAS DPP signal processing — faster than traditional pulse processors, with detection limits low enough that "below the regulatory ceiling" stops being a question and starts being the baseline.
The real advantage isn't a single element, though. It's that one ElvaX S Lab replaces what used to require multiple specialized instruments — sulfur, chlorine, metals — on separate machines, with separate operators, separate calibrations. For fuel labs and lubricant QC: more throughput, fewer instruments to maintain, faster results to the customer.

A ton of recycled smartphones contains more gold per ton than typical gold ore. The challenge isn't whether the precious metals are in there — it's identifying and sorting them fast enough to recover the value.
E-Waste World Expo 2026 brings together recyclers, refurbishers, ITAD professionals, and electronics manufacturers working on exactly this: extracting value from the world's fastest-growing waste stream, while meeting WEEE, ROHS, and chemical compliance.
Elvatech will be on the floor. The ProSpector 3 reads precious metal content on PCBs, sorts WEEE fragments by chemistry, and flags restricted substances (Pb, Cd, Hg, Br) in plastics and components — in seconds, on the spot, without sending samples to a lab.
Find us at booth D135. Bring questions. Bring something to test.

A heavy pendant in an estate clearance lot. Stamped "18K". Solid feel. Light wear consistent with age.
3 seconds at the bail:
Au: 73% — looks right for 18K.
3 seconds on a worn section near the chain loop, where the gold layer ended:
Cu: 67%, Zn: 22%, Au: 5%
It's gold-filled — a brass core with a bonded gold sheet, thick enough to fool scratch tests and surface passes on intact areas, but it doesn't run through the piece. Worth roughly 1/20th of solid 18K.
The dealer hadn't sold it as solid. The previous owner didn't know either. The chemistry just told the truth.
JCK opens tomorrow.

Three days of conversations. Samples handed across the table and answered in seconds. Questions that had been waiting weeks, settled on the spot.
Today is the final day of Industrial Forum Kyiv — and the last chance to walk up to our stand, hand us a sample, and watch the ProSpector 3 tell you what's actually inside it. One second. No lab. No waiting.
Behind every test this week is the same thing: 35 years of designing and building XRF analyzers in Kyiv, for the world. The engineers who built the instrument on our table are a few kilometres from this hall. That's what Made in Ukraine means to us — not a label, but a workshop down the road that competes with anyone, anywhere.
To everyone who stopped by, asked the hard questions, brought their toughest samples — thank you. This is exactly why we do it.
Doors are open until close today. Stand 60 F01. Bring something to test.

A lot of recycled gold from a refinery. 18K, certified, ready for casting.
3 seconds:
Au: 75.0% ✓
Ag: 12.5% ✓
Cu: 11.8% ✓
Cd: 0.7% ⚠️
Cadmium. Restricted in EU jewelry under REACH at 0.01% by weight. One cast batch in, one regulatory issue out — a rejected shipment at customs, possibly worse.
The chemistry was right for gold karat. Wrong for compliance. Both questions get answered in the same 3 seconds.
JCK opens in 2 days.

Synchrotron beam lines. Benchtop XRF. Total reflection spectrometry. Electron-probe microanalysis. Cultural heritage diagnostics. Geosciences. Environmental sensing. Medical applications.
All of it sits under one umbrella — EXRS 2026, the European Conference on X-ray Spectroscopy — opening in Catania, Italy on 14 June for one week of papers, posters, and conversations.
Elvatech will be there. Our analyzers are designed and built in Kyiv, but X-ray spectroscopy is an international science — and EXRS is one of the meetings where that community gathers in person.
Three weeks out. If you'll be in Catania, find us. Talk technique, talk applications, talk about what you wish XRF could measure that it currently can't.

"It's been in the family for three generations. 22K, from India, my grandmother brought it over in 1962."
The owner believes every word. Probably correctly.
3 seconds:
Au: 75.1%
That's 18K, not 22K. Either the family story drifted across three retellings, or regional standards differed, or someone along the way had it remade and didn't tell anyone.
The trade-in still happens. Just at a 30% lower price — backed by chemistry, not contested by anyone.
JCK opens in 3 days.

Day one of Industrial Forum Kyiv is now open.
35 years. One Kyiv-based team. XRF analyzers designed and built here — shipping across continents to jewelry workshops, mining sites, foundries, refineries, and research labs that need precision in seconds, not days.
The ProSpector 3 on our stand today is the same analyzer trusted on shop floors thousands of kilometres from here. The same instrument verifying gold karat in international hubs, identifying alloys in fabrication shops abroad, checking ore composition in the field.
Made in Ukraine. Engineered to compete anywhere.
Walk the floor. Find us near stand 60 F01. Bring questions. Bring samples — we'll run them on the spot and the analyzer will tell you what's really in your material in 1 second.
This is what 35 years of XRF engineering looks like up close.
📅 26–28 May 2026
📍 Industrial Forum, Kyiv

A wedding band. Heavy. Cool white finish. Stamped "PT950". The seller is asking platinum-grade money.
3 seconds:
Pt: 18%
Pd: 76%
Ag: 5%
It's a palladium-based alloy, not 95% platinum. The stamp is wrong. The price assumption — based on platinum spot — is wrong. The real metal value is roughly 40% of the asking price.
Nobody gets accused of anything. The screen does the talking.
JCK opens in 4 days.

A Victorian ring. Hallmarked 18K. Estate sale, with paperwork. Heavy. Photographs well.
3 seconds:
Au: 58.4%
Ag: 12.1%
Cu: 28.9%
That's 14K. The hallmark was stamped a century ago in a region where standards drifted — or restamped at some point in the ring's life. The piece isn't a fake. It's just not what it claims.
The deal doesn't fall through. It renegotiates. The chemistry is on the screen — there's nothing to argue about.
#ThreeSecondStories #JCKLasVegas
3 seconds. That's how long it takes an XRF analyzer to read a piece of metal.
In those 3 seconds, a deal changes. A scrap lot reprices itself. A "family heirloom" tells a different story. A hallmark gets called.
Over the 9 nights before JCK Las Vegas, we're sharing some of these moments. Each one stand-alone. Each one built on the same 3-second test.
Real situations from the jewelry trade. Sometimes the metal is exactly what it claims to be. Sometimes it isn't.
First story tomorrow.
(If you're walking the JCK floor 29 May – 1 June, our dealer US Metals will be there with a ProSpector 3 on the table. Bring something to test.)

Stainless 304 and 316 look identical. So do A36 and A572 steel. So do duplex 2205 and super duplex 2507 (which costs 3x more).
ASME and AWS codes require Positive Material Identification before welding.
Lab PMI: 2–5 days, $80–150/sample
Portable XRF: 3–5 sec, $2–3/test
One missed mix-up = $400K+ vessel replacement.

Great overview — especially the point that no single handheld instrument fits every mineral matrix.
Would you consider adding Elvatech ProSpector 3 to this type of list? It’s a handheld XRF analyzer designed for on-site elemental analysis of ores, rocks, and minerals, helping field teams get fast composition data for screening, sorting, and documentation.
Curious how you would compare it in real mineral exploration workflows.
Happy Technology for the Future Day 🚀
Things that sound like sci-fi but already exist:
🐷 Pig kidneys working in living humans (271 days)
☀️ Laser fusion producing 4x more energy than input
🧠 Paralyzed people typing with their thoughts
🧬 AI designing new drugs in months, not decades
🌖 NASA actively preparing to mine the Moon
The future doesn't arrive with a bang. It sneaks in while you're scrolling.
Oh, and we've been quietly building something too. A next-gen XRF analyzer. No details yet. But stay tuned. 👀
