Just a 22-year old girl, documenting my encounters with systems that don’t understand autism! Neurodiversity isn’t an illness, it’s a different way of thinking.
In memory of Fern Foster who took her own life 5 years ago today after she was told her baby daughter was going to be adopted.
Fern loved this song, especially the lyric about 'pushing an elephant up the stairs'.
You are missed ❤️

We’re outside the Old Bailey right now as mothers supporting Constance Marten because many of us have experienced the brutality of #familycourt stealing our children. We’re saying Hands Off Our Children! Children need their mothers. @evansma@SummerBG@hansummers
@SCBierton@BBC3CR Read the inquest. Ambulances do not carry the antidote. There are also issues with response times with fatal poisonings. Lots of people dying this way, which is why Coronors are raising awareness. Actions of Oxford Health & LA also part of the story.
So on the last day of Fern's inquest next week (day tbc) we are inviting people to 'GO PINK FOR FERN'. Wear pink, post something pink to spread awareness of autism in girls and women.
Fern wanted to dye her hair pink b4 she died but was worried about being judged.
"I've also had the experience of the crisis team both without a recorded PD diagnosis on my notes and with one. It's night and day. Why do we give already vulnerable people labels that basically flag them up as targets for more abuse and trauma?"- Fern Foster
💜 and 🕯️for day 2.

The first piece of media coverage. Please feel free to comment and interact on the article - if we show them that people are interested I suspect they are likely to cover it more
Fern Foster's @ElyssaLeopard's inquest starts tomorrow. She was 22 when she died in July 2020. Her family hope her inquest will explore involvement of professionals in Fern’s life and child protection processes https://t.co/eNi7bjAmxB

@KieranRose7 Could we do an 'awareness part 2' highlighting the difficulty actually getting a diagnosis, and the constant fight to get any support, schools, LA, Mh. Let alone the void when reaching 18 and suicide rates. We need more than just awareness, we need change!
@trewvs I was told "I hear you are struggling to understand your (PD) diagnosis". Nope, I understood it completely.
I had read the diagnostic criteria in the DSM, researched it extensively and compared it to my symptoms. I just disagreed with it.
@spinnymandela @RowanFoster10 They didn’t understand autism in a well masking, intelligent female. Requests for reasonable adjustments and advocacy were ignored. They thought she was purely mental ill and unwilling to admit it.
Fern took her own life on 8th July last year following a complete lack of mental health support and what can only be described as bullying from social services.
Fern left behind a six month old baby girl.
Her sister, now posts. Follow her on @RowanFoster10
