When our special community member celebrates Birthday, things happen... Happy Birthday Smellbow🎂
Thank you @MFoon42078 and Killmonster for this festive and grandiose birthday map - a real treat!
The dark art that flowed from the equally dark and very mysterious Art Room at id has always been a thing of wonder and fear. Quake was (and is) very special ❤️
If you missed @romero's Quake 30th Anniversary stream last night and want to hear some cool trivia and Quake tech stuff, you can still watch it here.
Thanks for the stream, John!

Vertex color/painting art is almost gone, and we're forgetting how much we can achieve with it that classic lighting can't. We rely so much on default lighting, not to mention that vertex colors are disabled in default engine shaders these days.
Vagrant Story's use of vertex colors to bake lighting and shadowing is the work of legendary artists.
In interviews they said most of them only had experience with 2D. It was their expertise on 2D and pixel art that allowed them to pull off something like this
@Onecoldtruth Just google Vertex Painting in Blender (it's Vertex Painting edit mode). You can also google the same thing for Godot. I'm sure you'll have both ready in no time.
What a great vibe!! It feels like it's coming from the Gothic series.
If you're not following Sword Hero yet, do it. And wishlist it on Steam while at it.
When I see asset packs using AI-generated thumbnails, I assume the work in the packages is also AI-generated, so I just skip it, I don't even bother checking them out.
If you can't get a designer to help you out, at least try to squeeze something more unique out of AI-gen.
Dear sound effect and music asset creators;
Please stop using generative AI for your thumbnails. You're putting a giant label on your work that gives the impression it's low effort slop, even when the actual content might be excellent stuff!
