these two pictures ended up next to each other in my phone's gallery and I'm losing my mind IMAGINE BEING THIS IN LOVE FOR 30 YEARS! OVERCOMING THE HARDSHIPS AND SEPARATION!
Imagine for Z3's ending, Nick takes Judy to a beach during sunset, then he gives her the carrot pen, and she plays it and the recording has him saying 'Will you marry me?' to her. She's overwhelmed by the words and he kiss her, later she says "Yes! I do" and then kiss him back.
The Beauty of Simplicity
Written a few days ago, hope you like.
I wanted to write about how movies with simple stories can be just as captivating as those with more extraordinary plots, and how this connects to the way I write my own stories.
I’ll start with what motivated me to write this piece. Recently, a beautiful animation called Swapped was released on Netflix, which tells the story of Ollie and Ivy in a forest. Both struggle to survive within their respective communities, but they end up getting in each other's way. It all begins with Ollie’s innocence as he teaches a little bird how to eat pipplets. Notice how simple this beginning is. Teaching another creature how to eat—nothing extraordinary, yet the scene itself is beautiful and charming. And if you think that’s all, the movie keeps going. Ollie and Ivy meet again years later and end up swapping bodies, meaning they have to learn to help each other to find the magic sprouts. In these scenes, we can see a connection forming and a friendship blossoming in a beautiful, tender way. They try to understand each other until Ollie reveals that he was the little pookoo who taught Ivy how to eat pipplets. This leads to one of the most beautiful moments of redemption: Ivy sees the same gentle pookoo from before in Ollie, and because of that, she deeply regrets what she caused him and his community. Right here, their beautiful friendship is sealed. Ollie also shows unparalleled bravery when he climbs Javan Rock just to save his friend. The movie portrays the survival of different animals in the forest and how it’s possible for them to understand one another and live in harmony. It is simple, yes, but a friendship forged in adversity doesn't break easily. In the end, it’s impossible not to get emotional during their reunion; you can feel all the affection and love between them. It’s just too beautiful. It’s a simple story, but a highly captivating one that touches our hearts precisely because it is gentle.
But do you think Swapped is the only one like this? There is a true Disney gem released in 2008 called Bolt. I remember the trailer playing tons of times on the Disney Channel, but I never paid attention to it. Until 2021, thanks to a YouTube channel, I realized I was looking at a beautiful movie I had never actually watched. Bolt is a simple movie and doesn’t even have a villain. It’s about a dog discovering he’s just a dog after leaving the studio where he lived, and traveling across the US to find his owner again. On this journey, he meets a stray cat and a hamster from a trailer park. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch a dog discover the simple things that make him a dog—sticking his head out of a car window, playing with other dogs, enjoying the rain. It's a journey of rediscovery while building bonds with Mittens and Rhino. Bolt realizes he’s just a dog and that he has friends, which is why he rescues Mittens when she is taken to the pound. It’s a simple movie, but it’s captivating and moves you all the same.
A honorable mention must go to the Zootopia franchise, which I have been completely in love with since 2016. In this movie, we are introduced to a city made up of mammals, and we meet Nick and Judy, who start out as natural enemies and gradually come to understand each other until they become friends and work partners. In the second movie, this relationship is tested, and we are treated to one of the most beautiful confessions in animation, where they open their hearts to one another. The movie has a certain simplicity to it, where the characters are just animals with the abilities of their own biology and nothing more. Judy is just a bunny with big dreams, and Nick is just a fox broken by life, but they manage to heal each other in a beautiful journey.
Simple stories, when well-told, move us. Just one more example: another Netflix movie called Remarkably Bright Creatures. It tells the story of a cleaning lady who is still grieving the loss of her son and looks for some light at the aquarium where she works. The movie is simple, with simple scenes, but it is deeply captivating.
Since 2013, I’ve been writing romance fanfictions. In the beginning, I used to overdo the drama, sadness, and melancholy, until 2016 when I realized I didn’t need any of that to write a good story. And that’s when I discovered my true passion in writing: creating simple, captivating, and heartwarming stories, just like the movies I mentioned here. There is something magical about writing a couple who is just enjoying each other’s company in the comforting silence of a house. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully explain this feeling, but I know it’s what I write. Gentle and welcoming stories, just like the films I brought up.
Just because it's simple, it doesn't mean it isn't moving.
(Please this is something personal I wanted to share here, don't take as an absolute truth.)
"Adiós hijo."
La primera vez que ves la película piensas que es una expresión, pero no, si es su hijo, él sabía que era Cornelius, sólo quiso disfrutar una tarde con su niño de nuevo, ambos saben que él irá y vivirá todos esos recuerdos que aman con sus versiones del pasado..
