September came with a lot of good news and hard work coming to fruition🥲 First, I was awarded the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship, which will fund my dissertation fieldwork in Brazil for all of 2025 in affiliation with FGV!

I find that nonwhite lawmakers are the primary drivers of race-based conversations in legislative committee hearings, but white lawmakers engage in race-based discussions when they serve on racially diverse committees.

As of today, Habitat for Humanity’s counter-offer to purchase the Carlton Mobile Home Park was officially accepted
This will prevent the displacement of the 66 families who live there while also allowing a resident-involved process to determine the future of the community
So so sad to write this. RIP dear Jim. Prof James Scott was a brilliant engaged scholar, surprisingly consistent/persistent in analysis, who married pol science & ethnography in the best way, & who deeply influenced my own thinking/scholarship. Importantly, he was a kind person.
