why is Handmaids Tale the reference point for restrictive abortion laws instead of like..... the 1950s/1960s? there are many people alive today who have lived through the reality of draconian abortion law and invoking sci fi instead of the past seems.... misguided?
Has anyone let Justice Kennedy know that the administration is using religion and quoting the Bible to justify its odious familial separation policy? If we state that fact will the conservatives on SCOTUS say we're being biased against evangelicals?
@mixedlinguist @Ologies Yes I've been looking into that as well! The use of language in a community that has existed with a certain need for secrecy is really interesting, especially as visibility changes. Thanks!
@mixedlinguist I loved your episode on @Ologies! Any chance you have any recommendations/resources on the linguistics of LGBTQIA+ communities? I'm really interested especially in generational divides in communication/terminology etc. within the queer community. thanks :D
'This week, Baltimore became the first major city on the east coast to do away with fines for overdue books. The decision means that 13,000 residents whose cards have been blocked for accumulated fines can now check out books again' https://t.co/nCY8M7GVT9
Student survivors have been silenced for way too long. When this valedictorian went off-script to call out sexual misconduct at her high school, they cut off her mic. But Lulabel Seitz still found a way to be heard. #MyCampusToo https://t.co/Y4Slj5dzDN
@PeaceFirstOrg Just looking at your online curriculum now. This is such interesting work! A different approach but related philosophy to a group I do research with (https://t.co/YHYNEB7rYF) love the peacemaking model of youth-led social justice!
ADULTS: "Let youth experiment. We're often scared to let youth try things out and learn from themselves. We're often told 'that won't work' rather than letting youth see the process, giving youth resources. Youth are creative!" #CLPP2018 Taking Up Space: From Teens' Experience
#CLPP2018 Taking Up Space: From Teens' Experience "We all have the experience of being young people. If we all unify, that's pretty damn powerful. How can we get the attention we deserve? As we go back to our communities, what can we do to make that happen?"
Best part of #clpp2018 so far is the crew of kids playing /aka networking/ during lunch. They're calling themselves The Cartwheel Kids and someday I anticipate they will rule us all with grace and justice #clppkidsarethefuture
