An element of academia which continues to floor me is that three people in a department can teach the same amount of classes, but one person makes 100k+, another makes 45k, and another makes 18k...and students have zero awareness of this difference.

Nice that this is the year my teaching anxiety dreams are coming true. Tech kaput in a film class; can show neither clips nor screenshots. Rain doubles commuting time; 9am class. Realise 15 mins into a lecture that screen is mirrored; students see my weird notes and cheesy jokes.

Very much enjoyed the #PastAsNightmare conference in Reading over the last few days. Heard some fantastic papers, and finishing my own near midnight while watching an incredible lightning storm was appropriately Gothic!
