Astonished to hear in @BBCradio4 Inside Science that some USA farmers feed chicken shit to cattle. This may explain why some cattle now have H5N1 Avian influenza. Unbelievably stupid and horrible.
Nice free trade deal with the USA anyone?
@Hypatiakitten @IanDenton12 I'm sure there are cases of dogs off leads in these places hence the concern. But 12 million of them left to hunt and roam? (there aren't that many dogs in the UK and many have no hunting instinct - mine prefers a ball). I walk daily - quite rare to see a dog lose.
@Hypatiakitten @IanDenton12 There are nearly 12 million cats in the UK - nearly 1 in 5 households. If only 50% of these are let out to hunt at night, what hope does wildlife have?
I would welcome a law to keep cats indoors at dusk & night - I suspect there is no way of policing it, hence it doesn't exist!
@EmmaBurlow @IanDenton12 I talk about it every chance I get. I post about it too. Here is one of the references I use. Dogs off leash is bad too. People don't think about wildlife so educating them is key.

@TracyBrighten1 @IanDenton12 Thanks and it should never be a cats vs dogs conversation. Lets not ignore the elephant in the room here. The massive, unchallenged, entirely preventable loss of birds and small mammals who are already struggling. Put cats on leads (too) and see wildlife thrive.
@frankhankjr@jerrycorn1020 @IanDenton12 I think any killing machine should be kept indoors! At least at dusk, or overnight when wildlife has no protection. A colony of bats was wiped out in our church by the cute, friendly local cat who went back night after night. The owner posted a photo of the 'presents' on FB.
@IanDenton12 Ian - as outright assassin, I think that firmly holds cats in court for biggest impact. Bit late now to blame dog owners for disturbing what's left - whilst cats surely are lining up to finish off ? I don't get this argument sorry.
