Dear @Nsukka_okpa, I understand that you are a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo but do not let agenda make you biased. It's not true that Okocha scored 1 goal per year, that is unjust to his true tally. He scored a total of 14 in 13 years which means he averaged 1.07 goals per year.
My software agency is owing Tinubu taxes 🤯
@ServiceBlocks is one of the fastest-growing software companies in Nigeria.
We launched officially about a year ago, and honestly, it was just vibes and Insha Allah 😭
Build software. Get paid. Pay the team. Buy tools. Reinvest. Repeat.
Recently, I got a finance acquaintance I met on LinkedIn to audit the company’s books because we’re trying to prepare for the scale we’re aiming for.
That’s when it hit me.
We ought to be remitting taxes for employees, two of our staff are actually underpaid for the work they do, our bookkeeping could be much better, and there are expenses I personally pay for that shouldn’t even be coming from my account 😭
Nobody really tells you about this part of building a company.
One minute you’re excited because you landed a ₦5m project, the next minute you’re discussing payroll, taxes, contracts, operating expenses and whether the company actually made as much money as you thought it did 😂
ServiceBlocks started as me building software for people and bringing friends in whenever I needed help.
Now I’m slowly realizing we’re actually building a company.
And companies need structure.
I think this next phase will be less “vibes and Insha Allah” and more boring adult things like proper books, taxes, payroll and processes.
Growth is somehow exciting and annoying at the same time 😭
Someone offered me 40% of his startup to build it, and I still said no 😭
For startups I genuinely believe in, I typically charge $1,000 - $2,000 + 20% equity. But if I don't fully believe in the idea or the founder isn't offering Equity, I charge my normal development fee, and they can always offer me equity later when there's actual traction.
An amazing guy reached out to me with an idea he's apparently already built about 80% of. He has a community, believes he can market it, but says his weakness is design/product and wants me to come in and handle that side with him.
He couldn't afford the $1k, so he offered me 40% instead.
The funny thing is, the $1k isn't even really about the money for me. I've received equity in startups over my 5 years in tech, and I've learnt that giving someone 20%, 30% or even 40% of something currently worth nothing is very easy 😂
But if I'm going to commit my time, my team, and months of work to your idea, I need to know you have some skin in the game too.
Because if it works, 40% could be worth a lot of money. But if it doesn't, 40% of zero is still zero, and I don't get my time back.
Maybe I'm being too strict, but I've seen this side of startups enough times to know why I have that rule now.
Would you take the 40%?
If I don sell Cristiano Pedro don Santos Neto for €116m to Al Hilal finish, I go come sell Sergio Ramos Tosin Adarabioyo to my neighbor Arsenal for just €50m.
When una de chop Idme and benefit for 2022, I de school I de study Business administration and Finance.
We journeyed pretty fast and far with great team, partners and great contributions.
SureJdataservice functioned as a VTu and a bill payment company in Nigeria with a few thousand users. Only on Monnify payement gateway, we crossed over 18,000+ transactions in a short while with a staggering Volume.
That same service has now evolved into SureXend Africa: a super-app that brings VTU services, bill payement together with cross-border USDC|USD stablecoin payments_Built natively on Arc rail_(currently on testnet) for Nigerians and the diaspora. Simple: dollars in, dollars out.
