Satire and parody shows increased political participation but the same can not be said for traditional late-night comedy. A survey of 499 Students showed that those who consumed political satire reported higher levels of political efficacy similar to traditional tv news.

If traditional news and satire are both increasing political efficacy why should it be classified as "soft news". Just because humour is utilized does not make it any less informative it just makes it more approachable.

And does the fact that humour is utilized make the information appear less trust worthy because it is not being delivered in a "serious" manner?

Is this the new way forward for engaging the public in politics? If the younger generation is absorbing political information easier through use of humour and satire shouldn't this become an accepted source of reliable news opposed to traditional tv news

Is priming the explanation for this discrepancy? The daily show often utilizes facts and gives context whereas Jimmy Fallon just hits a punchline.
