Three employees at a regional Nigerian bank just walked away with ₦8.5 billion. Not through a hack.

Samuel Ihechukwu Asiegbu. Fabian Chizaram Onyeimachi. Kingsley Kelechi Ejim.

All staff. All with legitimate access to internal banking systems.

They didn’t break in from outside. They altered transaction records from the inside the exact infrastructure they were paid to protect.

To pull it off at that scale, they brought in 4 external accomplices. Seven people. One conspiracy. January 2025.

EFCC arraigned them before Justice Daniel Osiagor at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.

This is the same pattern as the First Bank case that moved ₦40 billion, a staff member, a privileged function, no second layer checking the work.

Nigerian banks lost ₦52.26 billion to fraud in 2024. That’s a 350% jump in five years.

Here’s the part that should worry you more: incident volume actually went DOWN. Fewer attacks. Each one hitting harder.

That’s not random criminals getting lucky. That’s insiders who know exactly where the gaps are.

Segregation of duties isn’t paperwork. It’s the only thing standing between routine access and a headline.

Truth is, if pastors speak up during the campaign seasons, some of these same Nigerians will tell them, "Keep quiet, leave politics, & face your ministries." But they expect the same pastors to suddenly regain their voices once elections are over and Nigerians are faced with the consequences of the actions or inactions of voters.

Here, pastors can not win...

For instance, in 2015, many pastors spoke up. Even me, I spoke loud and wrote plenty, but we were told to shut up & that we were religiously motivated.

Where we are today is part of the ongoing consequences of the choice Nigerians made in 2015.
See, you can choose whom to give power to... that's easy. But not everyone will let you choose how long they keep the power you choose to give them. Okay, tell, apart from the 2015 elections, since 2015, which election declaration (result) has been a true reflection of the wishes of the Nigerian voters? Tell.

I remember telling people pre-2015 that you can't vote out what you want to vote in, but to them, I was too un-evolved to understand the power of the new Nigerian consciousness. "We will vote him out after one tenure if he does not perform," they said. Some of them are reading this tweet. I would love to say "I told you," but that's of no use now. We are in it together.

The truth about inconvenient truths is that people don't want to hear them because, right, they are inconvenient. But they need to be told.

Nigerians don't know what they want from pastors. As a pastor, if you speak up on national issues, half of Nigerians will ask for your head. If you keep mum & face your primary assignment, the other half will demand that you be cancelled.

On national issues, the inconvenient truth is that for good reasons, some pastors will speak, & some will not. More, those who will speak will not (be able to) speak-up every time, while those who do not speak will speak-up occasionally.

Finally,
Some vocal pastors are sincere, while some are not. Some quiet pastors are patriotic & some are corn-promised.
