Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem.

Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked.

Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

[The New Yorker @NewYorker]

The writer and activist Gloria Steinem died Wednesday, at 92. With her writing, her community organizing, and her partnerships, Steinem remained at the forefront of the feminist movement for more than 60 years. In 2015, Jane Kramer profiled Steinem for The New Yorker. “I’m an entrepreneur of social change,” Steinem told Kramer. “I raise money. I talk. I write. I tell stories. I want to do justice to the women I meet.” Revisit the story: https://t.co/RDvycKuvpM

Ads for clothes, vintage shoes, bags, accessories, row boats, handmade wool rugs, teapots, and Victorian chairs need to STOP popping up on my feed…

I can’t afford to be the perfect customer to target any longer!!!

It’s cool to like Dolly Parton.

And I am so glad that so many of us did.

But it’s cooler to act like Dolly Parton.

I hope more of us will.

We can all do better.

The world does not need an artificial intelligence that diminishes humanity; rather, it needs human intelligence enlightened by wisdom, political authority guided by conscience and technological innovation directed by charity. Only then will artificial intelligence become not a rival to humanity but a servant of the common good.

Thank you to all who helped make this possible — by building, investing, & saying YES to housing!
