Do you look at our insane world and wish for a simpler time when things were easier? Does anxiety cripple you? Do you look to the future with fear and trembling?

David was no different, and yet in his psalms, he gave us the proper attitude to begin each new day.

“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.”
Psalm 16:8-9 ESV

David set God always before him and loved the Lord deeply. But how does one set the Lord before them?

We pray. We fast. We obey God and serve our neighbors. We praise God with poetry and song. We read the Bible and meditate upon its verses.

Some Hebrews quite literally put God in their right hand with a phylactery containing their favorite Bible verses. You can do the same, or you can simply start your day with God and always look forward to Him. Notice that when we look forward to the future, we’re looking at God. When we turn back to see past regrets, we’re looking the wrong way.

David was not shy about the benefits. His entire being, mind and soul, was nourished and secure because he set God before him. Can’t you imagine David waking up, strumming his harp, and singing a psalm? That may have been his way. You might do the same, or create your own routine.

While other people look behind them at failures and insecurities, keep in mind that you are not obligated to join them.

Look forward, setting God at your right hand. The peace will be worth it.
