Before the game, Arsenal were top, Chelsea were second, six points apart. Arsenal came into the game with no Gabriel and no Saliba. No problem. Hincapie and Mosquera played instead, and Chelsea still couldn't beat us.

Now he's a different player. Missed the World Cup, so he's had time to rest. Under Xabi Alonso, he looks free. More time on the ball, more freedom to do what he wants. Two goals and one assist in his last two league games. Next to him is João Pedro, a real number nine, "the kind that scares you". And Morgan Rogers too. What he does at the Emirates on Sunday will be worth watching.

“When the official team photograph with the Premier League trophy was being arranged, I asked not to be included.

The staff and so many people at the club told me I should join. They wanted me there with everyone else. I understood why, and I was grateful they felt that way. But I did not see the need for it. I already knew I would not be part of the next chapter at the club, and standing in that picture did not feel right to me.

It was a painful decision. That trophy meant everything. We had waited so long for it, and I had lived so many years of my life inside that dressing room. Walking away from the photograph was harder than it looks from the outside. Still, I felt I had to do it. If I was not going to be there anymore, I did not want to take a place in an image that belongs to the group moving forward.

What I kept instead were the personal moments. A few photographs with the people I was closest to at the club, the ones who walked the journey with me day after day. Those are the pictures that matter to me.

I will always be proud of what we achieved together. The title is ours. The memories are mine. The official team photograph simply did not need to include someone who already knew he was saying goodbye.”

Chris Kavanagh will referee Arsenal vs Chelsea on Sunday, September 6, bringing a history of controversial calls involving Arsenal.

His most infamous moment came in August 2024, when he sent off Declan Rice for kicking the ball away, despite João Pedro appearing to commit a similar offence earlier.

Kavanagh was also criticised for missing a Cucurella handball and a dangerous Fofana stamp on Rice in the March 2025 clash with Chelsea.

Then came the controversial West Ham VAR decision in May 2026, when Callum Wilson's late equaliser was ruled out after Kavanagh judged a foul on David Raya.
