@RoofLesser @DonPGarza1 @committablepod @ClareCortright @robwipond @AndyHrmnpriest1 @kevinmnye1 I can't remember if the "D" stands for Durable or Designated but the explanation I heard was that I could pick the person and they would only step in to assist me if I asked them to (whereas a conservator can be authoritarian sometimes, and the law tends to empower that aspect)

@RoofLesser @DonPGarza1 @committablepod @ClareCortright @robwipond My personal experience + what others tell me, family courts vary greatly per town due to being less regulated, so it makes the entire Cship discourse very hard to navigate since my experiences on what actually works would have to be taken w/ salt outside 2-3 specific courthouses

@RoofLesser @DonPGarza1 @committablepod @ClareCortright @robwipond I've learned of alternatives like Supported Decision Making, and I've also heard of the idea of replacing a conservator with a DPOA of my choice but I don't know the full details of that one (yet, since I want to learn more). Courts may not always support these

@JackMic11633310 @MEB_Justice Under maritime law, anyone outside of specific circumstances like broken-down boats, is required to approach and help with a rescue! But I understand your analogy. Crime victims have a "duty to report", but authority figures don't always observe a "duty to investigate"

I'm very cognizant of the likelihood that most Cship victims in the US don't go online or aren't allowed to, so I'm glad to answer questions anyone asks me, with the caveat that I may not know info pertaining outside of CT and/or from very different circumstances
