Critics argue that recognizing coercive control will make family law more complicated. Women have been living that complexity all along. Family law is already one of the most difficult places to be when trying to negotiate with an abusive ex partner.

🚨 Why is Intimate Partner Violence dismissed or downplayed when it comes to public safety?

Last election cycle, the VPD kept highlighting stranger attacks which amounted to roughly 4 assaults per day. Earlier this year, the BC Solicitor General stated that about 25% of daily police calls are with respect to family violence.
