The world experienced its second-hottest May ever recorded in 2026, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The month was the warmest recorded since 1850, NOAA concluded after analysing weather data going back centuries.

During May 2026, the global average surface air temperature reached 15.79°C, making it the warmest May since 2024 and continuing a run of exceptionally hot months worldwide.

One of the most unique years for Tamil Nadu. There was no heat wave seen in Tamil Nadu this year and Chennai will not cross 40 C even 1 day in this May month following the footsteps of 2022, 2018 and 2004 in the last 25 years.

Normally this broad circulation as part of east-west shear zone develops in May end or June 1st week. Now for the 1st time i am seeing it in Mid-May. Normally, this shear zone ends will throw up low pressure system. So Both in Arabian sea and Bay of Bengal there will be a low pressure system (end of month). The Arabian sea one is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm in the next 10 days.

On sunday this circulation comes even closer and the easterly winds will fall right over NTN and KTCC coasts. So exciting days ahead
