The last couple days at The Lodge were special. The results: mediocre. My play: rusty. But I had a blast anyway.
The Lodge staff and stream production was first-class. And @DougPolkVids was an elite game runner and Uber driver all week. Doug, if your other 9 jobs don’t work out, you’ve got options, buddy.
What stood out most, though, were the people. With the right group, few things are better than the camaraderie of the poker table. And man, the heartfelt words many Lodge members shared with me meant the world. That feedback hits differently in person.
The last 4 years have been an emotional roller coaster. Walking away from poker, the only career I’ve ever known, and betting on writing has been such a scary gamble. This week solidified a couple things:
I still absolutely fucking love playing. Poker has given me everything. And I’ll be back, on the Lodge and other shows.
I think Beneath the Cards is going to resonate with people. And not just because of the wild poker stories. At its core, it’s about figuring how to live with a bit more peace while navigating a life built around cards—something I talked about with several Lodge players.
Thanks for tuning in guys. It’s because of you that I remain motivated to hop into the arena from time to time.

@Joeingram1 Was supposed to play some events but my job at the lodge ended until we reopen. Would love to support the legion. I travel for basically free and would love to have the legion sweat me.
The Lodge has won!! We’ve been absolved of any wrongdoing. I’ve stayed quiet while all of this has been going on, but I can’t tell you how happy I am for the players, staff, and partners. We’ll be reopening soon!! LFG!!!!
@GmanPoker@DougPolkVids Bro. I’m coming back to the lodge and hope to see you there playing. Maybe a book signing there? Doug and GMan collab there would be great
BREAKING: All charges against myself, my partners, and the Lodge have been officially rejected.
The seized money and equipment will be returned and we will reopen as quickly as possible, hopefully within a few weeks.
The Grand Jury in Williamson county heard the allegations against us, and refused to authorize proposed charges.
Justice has prevailed.
The damage to our staff and members has been tremendous, and it is now time to rebuild.
We will be putting together a kickoff event in the near future.
In the words of a great man: “you gotta know when to hold'em”
Each day that the Lodge remains closed is crucial for the business because folks like Alisa, an awesome and always-friendly dealer, will understandably have to move on in order to support themselves.
It's hard to explain to people who might be looking from the outside in how special of a place this is: One that is supported by hundreds of fantastic staff members like her, and brings thousands of people to Round Rock, TX, while broadcasting exactly what goes on in this building to the entire world.
Breaking: After meeting Saturday with Las Vegas, Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak intends to try to work out a deal to become the next head coach of the Raiders, a source told @AdamSchefter.
