Venezolanos,
The St. Lucie County sheriff confirmed there are "multiple fatalities" in the county after a tornado outbreak, NBC affiliate WPTV reported. https://t.co/t5SsRVHll0 #MiltonFlorida
It's 8:22 pm, and while it hasn't officially been called, Hurricane #Milton is about to make landfall between Sarasota and Venice #Florida. (radar GIF via @BMcNoldy)
The good news is that #HurricaneMilton is *finally* in a weakening phase. The bad news is that its starting point was a solid Cat-5, and that the wind field is now expanding. More water will be driven to the west coast of #Florida. Distances in this table are in nautical miles.
Our science can only go so far. Excruciating trying to forecast an exact landfall. That's why some communities will be devastated & others will be spared. Everyone needs to be ready, and if you were asked to evacuate you should have done so. See 11am NHC discussion 👇🏼 on #Milton
Not the news we wanted to wake up to 😬
#Milton is holding steady at a catastrophic Category 5 intensity. Winds are still sustained at 160 mph (260 km/hr).
Landfall is tonight.
Because #Milton reached Cat 5 for a second time today, and because landfall is only a little over 24 hours away, the new forecast from NHC no longer calls for the hurricane to strike as a Cat 3. It is forecast to hit #Florida as a Category 4 cyclone. Deeper surge now forecast.
