My last contribution on how to (so-called) decolonize IR (in @millennjournal)! The first baby step is to decenter the Western gaze in our syllabi:
-> 54% mention the Cold War, 8% de/colonization
-> 92% realism, 14% race studies
-> 32 U.S. leaders mentioned, 0 from Africa
Amazing to lead Day 1 of the @cdnwomenfdn Shockproofing Communities Summit with the brilliant @Fayza_Amel and organizations across the country working to end gender-based violence
Lunch w Dr @N_Kabeer ProfGender+InternationalDevelopment @q_londonschoolo delivering @IDSGuelph lecture ‘The Broader Story of Progress-Building collective action on the margins’. Me 10yrs ago quoting her work in my graduate thesis on gender justice movements can’t believe it!❤️
I strongly dislike the idea of "the intergenerational transmission of poverty" as if poverty is a disease. Instead, it's the "consistent passing of laws/policies reducing poverty to an individual's moral/character flaw." Poverty is a policy decision!
On Thursday, February 23, 2023 1:00 - 2:30 PM EST join us for the virtual roundtable “Honouring Black Feminist Leadership in the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sector”. Registration is now open: https://t.co/eIRn9m59Dv
It's February 1st! Y'all know what it is on this side. Here's a few #BlackHistoryMonth tips:
1. start w/ love, humanity, & understanding
2. lead from a stance of Black joy & excellence, our story didn't start in slavery
3. ALWAYS capitalize the 'B' in Black

The safest communities are the ones with the most resources, not the most police. We can't police our way out of poverty, homelessness and food insecurity.
Going to say this again: Policing addresses crime after it happens, it doesn’t prevent it. If we want to prevent crime AND build more compassionate communities, we need to invest in housing, mental health, education & healthcare.
Invest more in our communities. Not policing.
