EBK Strengthens Compliance with National Values and Principles of Governance

In adhering to Article 234(2)(h) of the Constitution of Kenya, Section 16 of the Public Service (Values and Principles) Act, 2015, and Section 63 of the Public Service Commission Act, the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) conducted a three-day reporting exercise to review, validate, and consolidate information for its compliance report.

The exercise brought together various departments of the Board who compiled relevant information with supporting evidence on the Board’s implementation of the constitutional values and principles of governance, including accountability, transparency, integrity, professionalism, inclusiveness, responsiveness, and effective service delivery.

Through this exercise, EBK continues to strengthen institutional accountability, uphold good governance, and ensure that its operations and service delivery remain aligned with constitutional and public service requirements.

Speaking at the 5th Annual ACEK Conference, EBK Registrar/CEO Eng. Grace Onyango, highlighted the urgent need to strengthen skills, safety culture and professional capacity across Kenya’s construction industry.

Quoting an EBK–Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety Services (DOSH) analysis covering 46 counties, she noted that 449 accidents were reported in civil & engineering works, while 462 were recorded in construction & building.

She further highlighted the skills gaps, with legal & regulatory compliance, occupational health & hygiene, and first aid & emergency procedures among the top training needs identified.

Professional Engagements: We were honoured to host Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads & Transport @davis_chirchir at the @EngineersBoard exhibition stand during the opening of the ongoing 5th Annual Conference of the @ACEK1968 2026.

The CS was accompanied by Principal Secretary, @Roads_KE Eng. Joseph Mbugua, and were apprised of the Board’s achievements, ongoing initiatives and plans to strengthen engineering regulation and professional development in Kenya. @OkereAMakokha, Director, Compliance & Enforcement @EngineersBoard highlighted the Ministry’s significance as a key partner in advancing the Board’s mandate and initiatives aligned with the Government’s development agenda.

This year’s conference is themed “Engineering Transformation: Scaling Green Growth, Smart Infrastructure and Resilient Futures.”

Improving Service Delivery: Our Ag. Registrar/CEO, Eng. Grace Onyango, paid a courtesy call to the @HudumaKenya Secretariat (HKS), where she was received by the Liaison Officer, Ms. Wangare Woresha, standing in for the Huduma Kenya CEO.

The visit centered on exploring areas of partnership and collaboration between @EngineersBoard and @HudumaKenya under the Huduma Kenya Service Delivery Programme (HKSDP), a Kenya Vision 2030 flagship initiative geared towards efficient, effective, accessible and citizen-centric public service delivery.

The engagement served two key purposes: to apprise EBK of the Huduma Kenya Service Delivery platforms available for deployment of its services, and to formally invite EBK's technical team to a consultative meeting at the HKS offices to discuss opportunities for partnership and service deployment.

Discussions explored opportunities for EBK to deploy its services through HKSDP's platforms, namely Huduma Centres, Huduma Mashinani, the Huduma Contact and Tele-Counselling Centre, and Huduma's online and mobile platforms.

This partnership aims to affirm EBK's commitment to enhancing service delivery and public access to engineering regulatory services, particularly for Persons with Disabilities, citizens with limited digital literacy, and those in marginalized areas.

Over 70 engineers recently joined @EngineersBoard on a two-day virtual CPD workshop on “Green Engineering — Renewable & Low-Carbon Solutions”, exploring practical solutions shaping the future of engineering in Kenya.

From Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to Wind and Hydropower, engineers gained insights into technologies driving the transition to cleaner energy.

Professional Development: Over 500 engineers participated in an @EngineersBoard virtual sensitization workshop on the registration of Accredited Checkers, Consulting Engineers and Engineering Consulting Firms.

The workshop enhanced participants' understanding of the registration process, eligibility requirements, professional responsibilities and compliance obligations. Speaking on behalf of the Ag. Registrar/CEO, Eng. Grace Onyango, Eng. Kenneth Kinoti emphasized that registration is more than an administrative requirement—it demonstrates professional competence, accountability and a commitment to excellence.

✅He noted that registration strengthens public confidence in engineering services, expands professional opportunities and raises standards of engineering practice. Directors of engineering consulting firms were urged to ensure full compliance with the Board's registration requirements to enhance the credibility and competitiveness of their firms.

✅The workshop also addressed professional ethics and practice, highlighting common compliance gaps such as inadequate project supervision, improper stamping of engineering documents, weak quality assurance systems, poor site records and non-compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements. Participants were taken through practical tools and measures to strengthen professional practice.

✅ The strong turnout reflected the engineering fraternity's commitment to professional growth and regulatory compliance. The Board remains committed to promoting competent, ethical and accountable engineering practice through continuous sensitization and professional development initiatives.

EBK Undertakes Performance Contract Negotiations: The @EngineersBoard led by the Ag. Registrar/CEO, Eng. Grace Onyango, this week successfully conducted its Performance Contract Negotiations for the Financial Year 2026/2027, bringing together Heads of Departments and key officers to align the Board's performance commitments with its Strategic Plan and national development priorities.

The negotiations were facilitated by representatives from the @Roads_KE led by Mr. Evans Mutari, who emphasized the importance of results-based management, accountability, and the timely delivery of performance targets in enhancing public service delivery.

Representing the Board, Mr. Samson Maundu, Board Member and representative of the Office of the Attorney General, underscored the need for legal compliance, sound governance, and strict adherence to the regulatory framework in implementing the Board's commitments.

Mr. Evans Atambo, Board Member representing the Higher Education sector, highlighted the importance of innovation, capacity building, and strengthening collaboration between academia and the engineering profession to support sustainable growth within the sector.
