One of the biggest opportunities in Nigeria's energy transition is ensuring that we don't just deploy renewable energy technologies, we build them here too.
That is why I am excited about the Joint Development Agreement signed between the Rural Electrification Agency and Ecotech Development Nigeria Limited. Through this partnership, we are creating a framework for the annual offtake of up to 200MW of locally manufactured PV modules and 200MWh of battery storage products, helping to strengthen Nigeria's domestic renewable energy manufacturing ecosystem.
This is fully aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Nigeria First policy, which encourages local production, supports indigenous industry, creates jobs, and keeps more value within our economy. As government continues to catalyse demand, the private sector gains the confidence to invest in manufacturing capacity here at home.
I am particularly pleased that we are partnering with a Tier One PV manufacturer with the technical capability and global standards required to support utility-scale renewable energy deployment. Partnerships like this go beyond procurement, they accelerate technology transfer, build local capacity, and lay the foundation for a resilient clean energy industry in Nigeria.
The future of renewable energy in Nigeria should not only be powered in Nigeria, it should increasingly be made in Nigeria.
The work continues.
