Chuuya, in some ways, is like the “monster” - he’s made up of parts from other people. His name isn’t his own, his ability isn’t his own, his identity isn’t his own.

In my opinion, SB is less about the question “Is Chuuya human?” and more about “Who is Chuuya?”.

People instinctively looking at Soukoku and their partnership and classifying them as a unit will always, on some level, positively impact Dazai and negatively impact Chuuya.

It’s such an intrinsic part of their dynamic that really isn’t talked about enough.

Actually, I will explain.

Both characters are nearly perfect deviations of the “genius” trope that is found in most media. They’re both overly emotional and tend to default to anger and pettiness once they overcome their anxious/timid demeanors.
