African feminists fail impoverished feminists all the time
And the persecution of chubbiedivah is a classic eg
We need to organize around her
Analyzing patriarchy is not a crime! Calling out sexual coercion (rape) is not a crime!
Crime is the construct of ruling class control
As I said, “unexposed, idle-minded” and in this case, feels culturally inadequate.
Colonization has robbed Nigerians of their basic sense of self-worth.
This reminds me of when I started my career in corporate. As a young, naive girl, I showed up at the interview with cornrows and a little makeup. The hr said and I quote “what hairstyle do you intend to wear to work?” I said “braids, ma” then she said “we only wear wigs here”
Then the ones who enforce it? Those ones have evolved into wicked army of moral policing and will happily resort to violence if necessary, to keep others to fit into their limited ideas. This is the most disgusting kind and many Nigerians have this trait.
Side bar, but I maintain that people who are bothered by how others present physically from a moral POV (eg. that piercings, locs, tattoos, revealing clothes, etc. are bad), are unexposed, idle-minded and feel spiritually inadequate.
The impression your family & friends has of your partner is formed long before they physically meet & it starts with you.
Your people form opinions/impression based on the version of your partner YOU present, not how they dress or act during the first meeting.
If you always complain about how unattractive, irresponsible, unreliable, or difficult your partner is, you’ve created the version your family & friends will meet, the first meeting is just them looking for confirmation of all you have said.
Your family may justify their dislike with something superficial like Tatoos, piercings, dressing, tribe etc. But na lie, na your hand the impression work Dey.
It’ll be a war of the sexes if women start slaughtering 90,000 men a year.
It’ll be a war of the sexes if women start trafficking men for rape and raping them in parks.
It’ll be a war of the sexes if women shoot up male dorms, colleges, and schools.
But they don’t.
Children don’t “bounce back” from trauma.
They bury it.
And buried trauma doesn’t vanish it leaks out later as anxiety, rage, shame, addiction, and self-destruction.
So no, kids aren’t resilient.
They’re hurting.
If you’re like me, when you pulled your Turkeys out of the fridge this morning you discovered they were still frozen😳🥶🦃
So this is going on at my house right now👇😅😂
It’s always strange seeing people take and post selfies with children from the global south. No one’s doing that with white kids in the U.S. or Europe, so why do it in South Africa?
It’s weird and honestly creepy to post other peoples children online like this.
