Today ICANN revealed the new gTLD round.
One application for .ens, and it's ours, uncontested. No auction, no rival claim, just process ahead.
One string, one applicant, one job: we are here to innovate at the seam of web2 and web3 until names simply work everywhere.

two habits if you send to a .eth
1. check more than the first few characters of the address it resolves to
2. know when names you rely on expire. once a name's grace period ends, anyone can register it
a small check that saves real money
one name should mean one owner
that's why ENS built on .eth, a string the dns root can't delegate instead of a name that already exists in dns. ENS backs ICANN's single authoritative root
names should work everywhere without colliding
This is exactly why I’m so adamant about DNS/ENS interoperability.
.ai already exists in DNS. If Binance and SPACE ID are handing out matching .ai identities independently of the actual domain owners, they’re creating conflicting identities under the same names.
That means the same name could identify one person on the web and someone else in a wallet. Users shouldn’t have to understand competing naming systems to figure out who they’re interacting with or paying.
ENS is open and permissionless, with no licensing fee to integrate. It supports both .eth subnames and real DNS names. Binance could build its own branded naming service using that infrastructure.
If all you need is an app username, use an app username. There’s no reason to dress it up as a DNS domain without respecting ownership of that domain.
It’s 2026. We already have the infrastructure to avoid this confusion. Handing users DNS lookalikes and leaving them to discover the difference is embarrassing.
I expect better from Binance and SPACE ID. Their users deserve better.
under ENSv2 the grace period for expired .eth names drops from 90 days to 28, and during it the name stops resolving
names that move to v2 get 62 days added, so existing holders keep their current grace end date
good moment to check when your names expire
New .eth pricing and grace-period changes are coming with ENSv2.
The annual price for 5+ character names will move from $5 to $8, new multi-year discounts are coming across all name lengths, and the grace period will move from 90 days to 28.
Here’s what you need to know ↓
Can I buy an ENS name with stablecoins?
Yes. ENSv2 will support payments with USD-denominated stablecoins, including USDC, giving you more ways to register a name.
three things people keep getting wrong about ENSv2
1. oct 25 is when the vote closes, it's not a deadline for you
2. if you hold a .eth and do nothing, it keeps working and stays renewable
3. subnames and imported dns names keep working without an upgrade
screenshot this
good one for anyone with a subname or a dns name in ENS
nothing to do at launch, existing subnames and imported dns names keep working without an upgrade
for namespaces like uni.eth, the parent name owner decides if and when to move to v2
What does ENSv2 mean for subnames like alice.uni.eth, names that use CCIP-Read, and DNS names imported into ENS?
Here’s how existing names will keep working, and what the new architecture makes possible.
There are a few moments in ENS history that are as momentous as this. We’ve been building for almost 10 years already and this is really the foundations of the next few decades where a programmable, permisionless naming system will be required to shape the next sovereign internet
Excited to sponsor House of HYPE in Mumbai on Nov 3 with @Hyperliquid_In! Looking forward to the conversations, connections, and good vibes with the community. See you there. 🇮🇳
@GentaTheQueen no need to do anything right now. ENSv2 isn't live on mainnet yet, the DAO vote runs through oct 25
your .eth keeps working and stays renewable either way, with no deadline to move. per the forum draft, a name moved to v2 can't go back to v1
lots of posts this week call ENSv2 migration permanent
per the ENS DAO forum draft, that's true. once a name moves to v2, its old v1 token can't come back
what matters more though is no deadline, and a name you don't move keeps working and stays renewable

@Kingx191 just to be clear - oct 25 is when the DAO vote closes, not a deadline for you
there's no deadline to move your name and a .eth you don't move keeps working and stays renewable
The vote to activate ENSv2 on Ethereum mainnet is now live.
This is a major step toward launching the next generation of ENS, with the decision in the hands of the DAO.

ENSv2 is approaching mainnet, and you might be wondering what that means for the .eth name you already own.
Will it still work? Do you need to upgrade straight away? Here’s what to know before launch.
Leading rollup infra provider @Calderaxyz successfully migrated its 9M+ subnames to Namespace with zero downtime 🥷
We're now powering offchain subname issuance and resolution for Caldera users
@prashant8956@ensdomains@Lighter_xyz not yet
ENSv2 activation is a draft on the ENS DAO forum and still needs a vote. until then v1 works as usual. apps like lighter are getting ready ahead of it
We’re bringing ENSv2 to Mumbai for @EFDevcon 8! 🇮🇳 Come explore it at our booth and upgrade your .eth name to claim exclusive swag.
And if you’re an Indian attendee getting your first .eth name, it’s on us. We’ll share details on how to claim yours soon!
