The decision to allow the building of apartments to proceed on the site of Bessborough mother and baby home is shameful.
Government must buy the site, ensure a full investigation of the the land and preserve it as a site of national conscience.
The women and children who suffered and died in this place matter. The survivors matter. The truth matters.
Bessborough decision ‘shameful’; Government must listen to calls for justice and buy the site – @EOBroin
"The very least the government should do now is to protect what is possibly the final resting place for so many."

The government may have voted down our Irish Unity Bill tonight, but they cannot vote down the future.
This conversation isn’t going away.
We’ll be back in the Autumn with further legislation because the people of Ireland deserve to be prepared for constitutional change and the opportunity to shape our own future.
The momentum for Irish unity is growing. We will keep building it.
Today marks another important step towards planning for Irish unity.
The question is not whether there will be referendums, but whether we will be ready.
Now is the time for honest debate, respectful conversation and careful preparation, so that every person across Ireland can help shape our shared future.
This is an opportunity to build a new Ireland, one that offers hope, opportunity and a better future for generations to come.
Today, we can take an historic step closer towards Irish Unity.
To building something better, and shaping a new and United Ireland. A real republic full of hope and opportunity for all our people.
TDs will have the chance to vote on Sinn Féin’s Bill. This would see government set out a real pathway to reunification.
This is the big idea of our generation. We must seize it.
Michael Löwy’s From Romanticism to Bolshevism is a fascinating portrait of Hungarian Marxist Georg Lukács.
Part biography, part critical assessment, you get a sense of the man & his ideas including hopes, disappointments & the inevitable contradictions.
@VersoBooks
The future of Ireland should be decided by the people of Ireland.
Tomorrow the Dáil can take the first step by backing the Sinn Féin Unity Bill that will turn the page and begin a new chapter for our future - one we can shape together.
The domestic & gender based violence social housing transfer protocol is welcome.
But excluding HAP & RAS tenants makes no sense.
Govt must urgently revise & reissue the circular so no one who needs this vital support is denied it.
Vacant home tax unpaid in 98pc of cases despite attempted crackdown
Payments were made on only 1,454 of the 80,000 houses lying empty
Having messed up the vacant home tax, hard to see FF/FG getting the derelict homes tax right! https://t.co/wDNlPqVLA7
The future of Ireland belongs to the people of Ireland.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reunite our country and build a new Ireland that works for everyone.
On July 7th, the Dáil can take the first step by backing Sinn Féin’s Irish Unity Bill. Together, we can turn the page and shape our future, together.
One of the best books I have read this year…
Quinn Slobodian’s history of the neo-liberal roots of the populist right is deeply researched, beautifully written & cogently argued.
Bravo 👏👏👏 @PenguinBooks
Honoured to have been with Jimmy Campion at the launch of the Elsie Black Oral History Project this week.
This is a profoundly important project from @CluidHousing & @ClannHousing
Putting residents voices at the center of our conversation about social housing is so important.
Interesting that Cultural Marxists are equally loathed by the Communist Left & socially conservative Far Right
Enjoyed reading Who Paid the Piper by @GabrielRockhill despite its unconvincing thesis & dogmatic framing
Looking forward to Requiem for French Theory @monthly_review
Nobody should be sleeping rough, full stop!
Tens of thousands of vacant homes & billions in exchequer surpluses.
Homelessness is a direct result of Government policy.
It doesn’t have to be this way. There are solutions.

Mother & three children with additional needs living in ‘absolute squalor’ denied medical priority twice from Dublin City Council
@PMVTrust & @DubCityCouncil have serious questions to answer.
Good work by @CiaranOMeachair

There should be no increase in the price of petrol and diesel while the Dáil is in recess and government ministers are away for their summer break.
The government must extend these cuts until Budget Day to protect households already struggling with the cost of living.
