#NewsAlert Tortured Youth Says His Spine Was Broken by Prosecutor’s Assault, Pleads for Transfer to Prison Facility
- The court has ordered that the accused be sent to Qilinto Prison and be given medical attention.
(Meseret Media) – Tariku Tefera, a 24-year-old young man, was reportedly caught in Addis Ababa under the suspicion of "conspiring to commit terror acts," a commonly used charge in Ethiopia.
However, during today’s session at the Lideta Federal High Court, the accused told the court, "I have been detained for more than four months at the office of Federal Prosecutor Natnael Sintayehu, who claimed to be holding me for investigative purposes. During this time, I was subjected to inhumane treatment."
Tariku further alleged, “The person who abused me was the prosecutor standing to the left here—Natnael Sintayehu. Due to the beatings, my spinal cord is broken. I can’t even stand without support, and I’ve lost control over my bladder. My body is destroyed. Please, I beg you, release me from this torment. The investigation is over and the charge has already been filed against me. What reason is there to keep me at the prosecutor's office any longer? Send me to a detention center and let me live among people.”
The court also questioned why Tariku Tefera was left behind when other co-accused individuals, arrested with him, were transferred to Qilinto Prison long ago and had their cases heard multiple times. The question was raised as to why he was excluded.
Prosecutor Natnael Sintayehu reportedly replied, “He was held back to receive medical treatment for his injured spine.” This response was confirmed by sources at Meseret Media.
Ultimately, the court has ordered that Tariku Tefera be transferred to Qilinto Prison today and be given the necessary medical care.

7/7 Children who once had stable homes & went to school are now sleeping in unsafe places. Some have dropped out of school because their parents can't afford fees. Forced evictions create lifelong harm. #StopForcedEvictions#EndImpunity
1/7 Imagine waking up to bulldozers outside your home, given just hours to leave with no compensation, no alternative, no meaningful consultation and ultimately no justice. This is the reality for thousands in Ethiopia facing forced evictions. #StopForcedEvictions#EndImpunity
6/7 People resisting eviction are being arrested, harassed, silenced, or threatened. Journalists covering the demolitions are facing reprisal. The goal? To erase the suffering from public view. #StopForcedEvictions#EndImpunity

Bus Ambushed En Route to Addis Ababa from Bahir Dar
- Passengers Killed and Abducted in latest North Shewa Attack
(Meseret Media)- A passenger bus traveling from Bahir Dar to Addis Ababa was ambushed today in the North Shewa Zone of the Oromia region, near the town of Gohatsiyon.
According to information obtained by Meseret Media, armed attackers intercepted the bus, opened fire, and reportedly killed some passengers. Others were taken into the nearby forest.
Local sources also indicated that some individuals managed to escape, and federal police forces have arrived at the scene and are reportedly engaged in a standoff with the attackers.
A social media page called “Voice of Drivers” confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers hijacked a bus full of passengers traveling between Gohatsiyon and Tulu Miliki and took them away.
This comes just two weeks after a similar attack in the same area, where 58 people were abducted between Fitche and Gohatsiyon.
Reports at the time indicated that members of the armed group known as OLA (Oromo Liberation Army) demanded up to 1.5 million birr per hostage for their release.
The previous kidnapping occurred on March 17, but so far, neither government media nor officials have commented on the attack, leaving families of the victims devastated.
Some are now going door to door seeking donations and appealing for help via social media.
This route has seen repeated ambushes, and the area is known to be a safe haven for the OLA, which continues to operate widely in the region.
