"It was very loud. We were woken by the explosion and realised it was nearby." – Yura, 8.
His family spent another night in a shelter, but this time they can't go back to their home. It was damaged in today's attack on #Kyiv.
"Everything's all right. You're safe," said his mum.

UN Friday on the Strait of Hormuz
“As the conflict in the Middle East unfolds and threatens to intensify, disruptions in maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz risk creating ripple effects impacting humanitarian needs and agricultural production in the coming months. While the Secretary-General is committed to making every effort to achieve a comprehensive and durable settlement of the conflict, immediate action is essential to mitigate these consequences.
To address these challenges, the Secretary-General has established a dedicated Task Force, led by Under-Secretary-General Jorge Moreira da Silva, Executive Director of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). This Task Force will also include representatives from the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Additional entities may be invited to participate as needed. The primary focus of the Task Force is to develop and propose technical mechanisms specifically designed to meet humanitarian needs in the Strait of Hormuz.
Drawing inspiration from relevant UN initiatives, including the UN Verification, Inspection and Monitoring Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM), the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI), and the UN2720 Mechanism for Gaza, this new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz aims to facilitate fertilizer trade, including the movement of related raw materials. The mechanism’s operationalization will be done in close consultation with relevant Member States with full respect for national sovereignty and established international legal frameworks.
If successful, it would also create confidence among Member States on the diplomatic approach to the conflict and constitute a valuable step towards a wider political settlement.
As part of his broader peacemaking mandate, the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Jean Arnault, will lead political engagement with relevant Member States, supported by the Task.”

Meloni: ‘The chaos erupting across the world traces back to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. When a UN Security Council power shattered international law, it told everyone the rules no longer matter. Ignore Ukraine and the disorder will only spread.’

A message of hope from UN Peace Ambassador, Charlize Theron.
“Peace is not just the absence of conflict. Peace is the creation of an environment where all can flourish, regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, class, caste or any other social markers of difference.”

BREAKING: In defiance of Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban, protestors in Hungary stormed the streets to voice their opposition to authoritarianism. This is being almost entirely ignored by mainstream media. Let’s make it go viral.

On behalf of @UN_Ukraine I wish all Ukraine school children a successful and safe year of offline and online learning.
I salute all teachers who make learning possible despite war against 🇺🇦.
We all long for the day on which all can study in person above ground to arrive soon!
A few months ago, #Kyiv school 96 was damaged in a horrific attack. With @UNICEF support and funding from @BMZ_Bund via @KfW_FZ_int, it is now repaired and open on time.
Over 600 students are back to learning — an important step in community recovery.

A night of attacks, horror & tragedy in #Ukraine. Devastated to hear early reports of at least 2 children killed & 3 injured in #Kyiv
On the eve of new school year, children should be excitedly preparing for class not being killed at home & fearing for their lives.

Using the correct names of Ukrainian cities isn’t just about spelling – it’s about respect and acknowledging of Ukrainian identity and history.
Unfortunately, many international media and organizations still use outdated, russified versions – a legacy of imperial narratives that aimed to erase Ukraine’s identity.
We invite you to use the correct forms:
Kyiv, not Kiev
Kharkiv, not Kharkov
Chernihiv, not Chernigov
Chornobyl, not Chernobyl
… and more 🇺🇦
These names matter. They reflect language, culture, and the right to self-identification.
Small changes like this help us move toward greater understanding and accuracy. And they do make a difference.
