Meanwhile, real totalitarian hellholes -

You have put your finger on something that has escaped many South African politicians and commentators: @realdonaldtrump’s tantrums against South Africa were always about politics and ideology rather than misinformation. No one is misinformed about anything. Instead, disinformation, purposeful and deliberate, was used by Trump’s regime to achieve ideological and political ends. At no point was the regime misinformed about so-called genocide in South Africa. Both the disgruntled Boers on one hand and the Trump regime on the other knew the truth that there was never any genocide. When the Boers sold the regime that narrative, the regime didn’t buy it. But it went along with it because it served its political and ideological ends. Sending delegations to Washington DC by the South African government to convince Trump and his henchmen on the absence of genocide was therefore a futile exercise. They already knew that there was no genocide. Remember that Trump may not be the sharpest tool in the toolbox, and may be naïve and not worldly-wise, but he is not an absolute imbecile. The USA has very efficient intelligence agencies that spy on every little corner of the world. If there was something as momentous as a genocide in any corner of the world, let alone in an extensively media-covered country like South Africa, the USA presidency would be the first to be briefed about it. There were never any intelligence reports that reached the Trumpster on that subject, otherwise he would not have used those bogus pictures of fake Afrikaner graves by the roadside or those body-bags from some Congolese war in his propaganda campaign at that meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa. He would have used authentic South African Afrikaner genocide pictures. And by the way, Trump’s crudely produced pictures and the video of Sello Malema’s chants were not for the benefit of Ramaphosa’s delegation but were solely for the purpose of convincing his information-challenged MAGA voters that their beloved redeemer is indeed the saviour of the rest of the White race. There were never any media reports that reached the Trumpsters that a genocide was happening in that part of the world. How can such significant news escape CNN, MS Now, and The New York Times? How was it possible for even the most right-wing media organisations such as Fox News, Wall Street Journal, the ultraright One America News Network, and Newsmax TV to join a conspiracy of silence about a genocide that was supposedly happening in an open society like South Africa? So you see, only an idiot in the USA would have believed the apartheid-nostalgic Boers when they came flogging their woeful tale. So, why is Trump going along with the fake genocide narrative even though he knows the Boers are using him? Why does he continue to reinforce it even when the originators are now recanting, claiming that the g-word was never ever uttered from their sacred lips? The reason is simple: Trump is using them too. There is a common interest between the two right-wing forces, a symbiotic relationship based on a common lie. Trump’s motives are twofold, one political and the other ideological. The political one is simple and straightforward: to punish South Africa for taking Israel to the International Court of Justice for Israel’s violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. As many of us already know, Trump is a past-master of projection: if you accuse our Number 1 ally of genocide, we accuse you of genocide. And we stick with it until you squirm. We take it a step further, we give your citizens, only the White ones though, refuge in our country. To add insult to injury, we even process their applications for asylum in the very country from they are escaping even though that proves there is no emergency situation they are escaping. This is where the ideological motivations come in. You might remember that the American far-right is now seized with the Great Replacement Theory, a conspiracy theory that claims there is a deliberate coordinated effort by elites (often described as Jewish, globalist, or liberal) to replace the White/European-descended population of Westen countries with immigrants from Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. According to the US Census Bureau’s most recent 2023 National Population Projections, the United Staes is projected to become a majority-minority country during the 2040s decade. This means that the White people will fall below 50% and the Black/Brown people will be in the majority. That demographic shift scares the crap out of White Nationalists. It taps into fears about losing cultural identity or power. One of the biggest proponents of the Great Replacement Theory is Elon Musk. He has embarked on a campaign on X (formerly Twitter) lamenting the plummeting numbers of Whites and advocating for an increase in birth rate, failing which it would be the end of “Western civilization”. Trump has echoed elements of the Great Replacement Theory. Indeed, White/Christian Nationalists came out of the woodworks in 2017 during Trump’s first term when they chanted openly without masks in Charlottesville “Blacks Shall Not Replace Us!” and “Jews Shall Not Replace Us!” and Trump declared that there were “good people on both sides.” Since then Trump has advocated publicly on television and other media for immigration from countries like Sweden and Norway instead of the “shithole countries” whose citizens are flocking into the USA expediting the demise White civilization. The problem of course is that White folks from the Scandinavian countries are not interested in immigrating to the USA, leaving universal healthcare and better living standards and more efficient welfarist governance in their countries. Therein comes the disgruntled Afrikaner! The USA has now banned any entry of refugees into the country except White Afrikaners. Top Trumpsters who are also leading proponents of the Great Replacement Theory, Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon, believe that though the numbers of Afrikaners who are willing to become refugees in the USA are not big enough to stem the tide of replacement, they will make a great contribution since they are ideological bedfellows as right-wingers. They are therefore better quality Whites compared to the (oft liberal) Scandinavians they were eyeing so greedily.
