Today @MinerElementary and all @dcpublicschools are closed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We encourage you all to celebrate this day in a meaningful way to honor his legacy. We look forward to seeing students back at school tomorrow (Tuesday, January 21).
Today our #mutualaid network hosted the final #community table of 2024. These events support our community and we are so grateful for the volunteers, the donors, and @CapHillFound who supported our efforts with a very generous grant. #weRminer#minerbears
Happy 209th birthday to our namesake, Myrtilla Miner! This incredible woman fought against considerable racist opposition to create a school dedicated to educating African American girls in 1851. Her “Normal School for Colored Girls” eventually grew into what is now @udc_edu.
We are grateful to @ServeYourCityDC for helping us host our Community Tables. Special shoutouts to @FoodRescueDC who via @Costco donated fresh produce; to our partner @EBFSC_DC for providing winter coats, etc; and to all who donated or volunteered—THANK YOU! #solidaritynotcharity

“In the District of Columbia, we are committed to social studies standards that reflect our student population and validate rather than deny their lived experiences and family histories,” said State Superintendent Dr. Christina Grant.
@DCSBOE is happy to announce that it has unanimously passed the new #SocialStudiesStandards This historical collaboration between the State Board and @OSSE marks the first time in 17 years that D.C. has updated the standards of teaching & learning social studies for DC students.
