🏳️🌈For the first time in its history, the organisers of Durham Pride have signed a brand new agreement with Equity, which sets minimum standards for pay, terms, and conditions for performers who work at Durham Pride.
Alongside an agreement with Manchester Pride, it is one of the first Pride agreements to be brokered by Equity.
It marks a huge moment for the event which is going ahead despite having 100% of its funding cut by Reform-led Durham County Council earlier this year.

100 YEARS AGO: The General Strike of 1926 began on 3 May and lasted for nine days, with 1.7 million workers stopping work in solidarity with coal miners who were threatened with wage cuts and longer working hours. "Not a penny off the pay, not a minute on the day" was their defiant slogan.
Although the strike did not achieve its immediate aims, it was a defining moment for the labour movement, brining workers together in a monumental display of collective action to fight for their rights. Solidarity forever.
On #InternationalWorkersDay we’re remembering that our rights were not given but fought for - and that we must continue to fight against injustice and inequality wherever it exists✊
This beautiful artwork is by illustrator Phil Whitton and has been developed for our upcoming annual Equity conference - this year taking place in Durham, which is referenced in the artwork.
This week Equity's Kirsten Muat sat before the Women and Equalities Committee @ukcommonscommittees and said what many of our members already know: precarious, low-paid work stops women from speaking out about bad behaviour.
The committee will soon be asking for submissions to their inquiry on Experiences of Women in Live Comedy, watch this space to find out how to take part.
On International Workers Memorial Day, we are remembering everyone who has died or has been injured at work. Unions are here to defend every worker and ensure that safety standards are met. Today, and everyday, we honour the dead and fight for the living. #IWMD https://t.co/GVgs2AumOQ
It's time for action in the West End.
We’re asking West End performers and stage management currently working on a show to vote in an indicative ballot on strike action. We want to move producers closer to a reasonable multi-year settlement on pay, terms, and conditions. Want to know more? Read more on our website: https://t.co/o15HiBnf0B

Big win for artists in Scotland 🎉
Ahead of May’s elections, both Scottish Labour and the SNP have backed Equity’s call for a Basic Income for Artists, pledging to pilot the initiative.
Marlene Curran, Equity Scotland Official, said: “We welcome this pledge from both Scottish Labour and the SNP to pilot a living wage for artists. Last month, we launched our own call for a Scottish Basic Income for Artists to support the creatives who drive Scotland’s cultural industries and boost the Scottish economy. We hope that other parties follow suit and back a Basic Income for Artists, taking the opportunity to cement Scotland’s position as a leader in arts and culture.”
