Yesterday marked ERDG’s 17th Annual Buddhist Horseshoe Crab Rescue & Blessing Dharma Assembly at Pickering Beach, Delaware.

Led by Rinpoches from ERDG and the Shan Ning Temple of Gaithersburg, MD, participants gathered to bless the beach, water, and horseshoe crabs, while rescuing stranded animals along the shoreline.

A simple act of compassion can save a life.

This tradition reflects the spirit of ERDG’s Just flip ’em!™ program, encouraging everyday stewardship for one of Earth’s most ancient living beings.

The American horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) is competing in the Indianapolis Zoo Uproar Conservation Challenge.

Voting is open March 16–19, and the winning species receives $10,000 for conservation efforts.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has issued a 90-day finding declining to list the Atlantic horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) under the ESA.

ERDG did not support the petition, as we believed the available science did not warrant listing at this time.

Responsible management by ASMFC and the coastal states must continue.

Conservation is a sustained commitment — not a single regulatory decision.

Pickering Beach, Delaware is one of the most productive horseshoe crab spawning beaches in the world.
Last night, its shoreline pulsed with life as thousands of these ancient beings emerged with the high tide to spawn.
But this abundance is rare.
If we hope to witness scenes like this across the four species’ spawning range – and truly value this life form – we must balance our actions with reverence – protecting critical habitat and ending unsustainable harvest practices throughout the four species spawning range.

Let this be a reminder of what’s still possible.
