@leedrutman This is an interesting chart, but I’m wondering what it would look like with interval data on the X axis, instead of ordinal data. I.e. instead of arranging the states by rank, a score out of 100 could speak to the relative different between two states better.

Anybody serious about commenting on the state US democracy should start reading more about Hungary and Turkey. The similarities, esp. the sharp us-against-them polarization and democratic norm-breaking, are goose-bump-y.

@leedrutman Hell, the fact that the most prominent slope down here happens to be in NZ post 93’ shift to MMP seems to indicate to me a strong link between electoral systems and how parties behave.

There's so much attention given to the fact that Trump got 74 million votes but little to the fact that Biden got 81 million. It's just an insane number. Population growth is a big factor, but no one before 2020 had even gotten 70 million votes.
