@HiddenGemCinema@TheCinesthetic For all the money those movies have made, I know very few people who can name the main characters in the film - the good and/or bad guys. I've seen each of the films, and I couldn't tell you right now. Those films are spectacular to watch, yet completely forgettable.
@rjaegerofficial The use of leitmotif in soundtracks today is almost zero. Few composers use it anymore, and films are worse off without it...in my opinion. :)
The inclusion of Yoda's theme is one more reason John Williams is a genius. I don't know if GenX fully appreciates how much better he made the films we watched growing up.
Not only does John Williams cheekily slip Yodaโs Theme into E.T.'s Halloween scene, but Debra Winger plays the zombie nurse.
The iconic moon shot is the actual moon. ILM had mere minutes over three nights per month to get the perfect shot.
It took three months to nail it.
@WhitStillman I never left - dvd, Blu-ray, now 4K Blu-ray. And my collection grows more and more every year, much to dismay of my wife. Speaking of films on disc - a @Criterion of Love and Friendship would be amazing.
In December 2021, writer-director Ed Zwick (Thirtysomething, The Last Samurai, Glory, Legends of the Fall, Courage Under Fire) shared a series of tweets about the craft of screenwriting. I saved that thread at Go Into The Story. https://t.co/BBmVDg4B8n #screenwriting
@ashnichrist I have. Not at quite the level shown in his video, but yes. If I need something basic thrown together fast and it's something more informational, I can see it as maybe a starting point. But for any kind of story driven video - don't see myself using it.
@ashnichrist I remember when non-linear editing took off...there were some detractors, but many of us saw the potential and jumped on board. I don't think this shift is quite the same.
@ForwardEditor Wow! As an editor for about 20 years now, I disagree with some of what you said in the video, but there's NO way you deserve death threats over it. Unfortunately, such is life on social media. Heck - even @RealGDT even noticed and commented... clearly you hit a nerve.
There's a post making the rounds on X about editing - specifically AI editing. As an editor, I think humans should do the creative editing. Handing some things off to AI is fine - like this: had a shot where the corner of the product box was bad. AI fixed it, no reshoot needed.
Dear @atari - saw the news on the #VCS store closing down. As a gift to all of us backers/owners of the console, it would be great if you could release a package (for purchase) of every Atari game (2600-Jaguar) you all have rights to for it. That would an amazing thank you!
Dear @Criterion - future release recommendations:
Bad News Bears (original version)
Eight Men Out
Avalon (from Barry Lenvinson)
Diner from him as well.
In case you're looking for 2027 ideas...there you go.
Signed,
Long time fan of you all and those films
@RefinedPopulist There was a lot of anger and disappointment regarding these films. I enjoyed them, flaws and all. But many of my old school SW fan friends did not like them as a whole - scenes maybe, but many felt they weren't great. That didn't stop Lucasfilm from pumping out merch.
One thing I notice w/more novice directors when editing for them - their attention to continuity. Don't get me wrong - I think it's important at times, but I really have let go of little things perfectly matching if the performance is there. But I rarely convince the director.
@GrowingUpRetro What stands out the most? The human interaction - no one is ordering from a kiosk, and the employees aren't all behind a wall out of sight only appearing when food to ready. The customer experience at @McDonalds has become one of the worst.
@SteveHullfish It's frustrating when you try and convince the director of that and they are just a slave to matching the shots. I need Walter's list in my edit room! :)
