I don't know much about animal rights yet; I'm looking forward to becoming more educated. It doesn't feel right that animals suffer for our viewing pleasure.
Elephant rides have been stopped in Idukki after not being permitted by the Animal Welfare Board of India. STAE trusts that this initiative is not just a money making exercise & is a genuine attempt to clean up the brutality of Asian elephant tourism: https://t.co/esaAQtUbFH
Since the government itself is promoting elephant tourism (bathing/riding), there really isn't much that can be done to help these elephants from outside.

Wildlife tourism has been the topic close to my heart since I started this project. If we just take one step back beyond our selfish desires to try something "cool", we'd see that we're doing an injustice to these animals.

A baby #elephant in Thailand has died due to injures endured while performing tricks for tourists. The #WildlifeTourism industry harms both captive #wildanimals - who are forced to perform tricks & face other indignities - & depletes wild populations. https://t.co/T8yMrwRdmL

This honestly just shows how little people care about the lives of other species. Elephant "worth" is literally a figure determined by the revenue they bring in.

I agree that elephant-human conflict cannot be appropriately resolved via aggressive methods. Rather, an effort should be made to address the problem at its roots.

My favorite project of the @MahoutsElephant Foundation is their Walking with Elephants program. They offer so many different options, varying from glamping and camping to volunteering and really take time to acknowledge that the elephants are a part of the culture and community
of many Thai villages. The Walking with Elephants program makes it possible for captive elephants to return to the wild while also continuing to be a source of income to the community. Experiencing the program would not only be a chance to take part in elephant-friendly
