Throwback to these legendary twin tornadoes in Saskatchewan this summer.
These tornadoes were both drillbits with tiny but strong circulations. Would’ve loved to have seen a closeup perspective, but as far as I know I was the only chaser there.

Here's the data from our deployment yesterday into a severe warned supercell SW of High River where our SkyFall sensor was entrained into the updraft. Updraft vertical top speed was 62mph/100.8km/h ! We reached 43,000 ft and a min temperature of -69F/-55.92C. Distance travelled was 102km, duration 1h 10m. Max speed 98mph/158km horizontally. Sensor was recovered. @teamdomcanada@ReedTimmerUSA #ABStorm
Looks like this dry stretch is finally coming to an end in Calgary. Looks like almost daily thunderstorms for many areas, particularly along the foothills.
The first round will arrive tonight with some nocturnal storms near Red Deer, then isolated severe storms on Saturday.
Yesterday's adventure: recovering one of Environment Canada's radiosondes after the 18Z launch from Stony Plain.
The telemetry led us straight into a forest where the undergrowth was dense... and the spiders believed they owned the place.
Mission accomplished. Radiosonde recovered. Spider negotiations were successful. 😅 @EricD_YYC@teamdomcanada@ReedTimmerUSA #ABStorm
A frame from yesterday's CloudRazor #2 research flight on the supercell near Rocky Mountain House just prior to SkyFall probe deployment into Inflow. We measured inflow wind speeds of ~60km/h at around 1km AGL on the way up. Probe was recovered later, and we're analyzing the data. @teamdomcanada@ReedTimmerUSA #ABStorm Disclaimer: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLICATE THESE OPERATIONS. Research flight conducted using a custom-built, hardened microdrone in Canada. Our operations are performed with Transport Canada approval, airspace monitoring, and direct communication with Weather Modification Inc. Comprehensive safety protocols were followed. These flights are conducted under controlled conditions by qualified personnel.
Nice ground scrapper with large hail currently just west of Rocky Mountain House Alberta. Some intensification occurring. @teamdomcanada@ReedTimmerUSA#ABStorm
The @teamdomcanada production line has been busy. 19 new SkyFall sensors are ready to take on severe weather. The four at bottom left are flight-ready, and in just a few hours, two will be ascending into the pre-storm environment to sample temperature near the 700 mb level whilst we wait for initiation. We'll post the data here, watch this space.🌩️🎈 @teamdomcanada@ReedTimmerUSA #ABStorm @BenChernesky
After retrieving our sensor, we raced to catch up with this supercell near Lomond, AB just as it was going outflow dominant. Snapped a few pictures while it still had some decent structure.
