Me and my “girl”!

A rare grove of 200 American chestnut trees, grown from survivors of the early twentieth-century fungal blight and planted in the 1970s at the former Clements State Tree Nursery in Mason County, West Virginia, is set to be bulldozed in November 2026 for a data center, and conservationists are raising the alarm over the loss of one of the country’s most important remaining stands.

The mature trees were propagated from rare wild survivors that withstood the blight, and the orchard now functions as a genetic library and a primary seed repository for efforts to restore the species across North America. Clearing it would remove that source material.

The threat comes from the multi-billion-dollar Monarch Compute Campus, a development planned for the area to house high-density data centers for artificial-intelligence processing. The facility requires thousands of acres, and the historic tree nursery sits inside the proposed construction footprint. Forestry advocates are asking the developers and state officials to adjust the building boundaries and permanently protect the grove as the conflict between the infrastructure project and the trees continues.

Pope Leo XIV tells the faithful gathered for the Angelus on Sunday that his doctors have found “a localized nodule” in his lung and will operate in a few days.

He added that the nodule was “detected at a very early stage and is well localized.”

RIP. Pennsylvania Police Officer Shane Seiber, who gave his life in the line of duty, is the 72nd officer lost in 2026.

Police Officer Shane Seiber was murdered when he was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call in West Philadelphia, near the 100 block of North 52nd Street at approximately 1:00 am.

Shortly after midnight, officers were called and dispatched to a complaint of a person wielding a gun from a residential porch. Upon arriving at the home, the officers were ambushed when the suspect fired at the officers as they stepped onto the porch. Officer Seiber and a fellow officer were struck multiple times before the suspect fled down a nearby alley. The officers were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where Officer Seiber succumbed to his wounds.

The second Philadelphia police officer shot in the ambush has not yet been publicly identified. The 33-year-old officer, a father of five, was shot 12 times and underwent surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He was last reported to be in stable condition despite his serious injuries.

The suspect was apprehended after a search and neighborhood lockdown; charges are pending.

Officer Seiber had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 10 years.

Officer Shane Seiber, 40, is survived by his wife, a 7-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter. His wife and other family members were at his bedside before he passed away.

Our thoughts are with the communities facing Hurricane Isaias and the first responders helping them.

This footage offers a view from the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunters’ mission into the storm, where crews collected weather data to support National Hurricane Center forecasts.

If you’re in an affected area, stay #WeatherReady: Follow official weather alerts and local emergency officials’ instructions. Never drive through floodwaters.

There are 3 Archangels who Intercede for us.
Here is when to ask for their help!

1. Archangel Michael :
. When you feel under attack,
. Temptation, Fear, Confusion that feels dark.
St. Michael is the warrior,
. He casts down Satan, and
. He defends God's people

Ask St Michael for strength, protection, and courage to fight back.

2. Archangel Gabriel :
. When you need Clarity,
. Big decision, a moment when you need to hear God clearly.
Gabriel is the messenger.
. He appears when God has something to say.

3. Archangel Raphael :.

Body, mind, heart, even broken relationships.

Ty Cobb won 12 batting titles in 13 years, and the one that got away went to Tris Speaker in 1916. The run started in 1907, when Cobb was 20, and ended in 1919.

MLB still credits him with 1910, the year the race with Nap Lajoie got so messy that the Chalmers company gave both of them a car. Tony Gwynn and Honus Wagner are next with eight apiece, still the National League record.

[Baseball’s Greatest Moments @BBGreatMoments]

Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell turned double plays together in Detroit for 19 seasons and 1,918 games, longer than any double play combination in history. Trammell made the Hall of Fame in 2018.

Whitaker got 2.9 percent of the writers' vote in 2001 and fell off the ballot after one try. He had 2,369 hits, three Gold Gloves, a Rookie of the Year award and a ring from 1984. He's eighth among Tigers here, and he's still waiting.

Should Whitaker already have his plaque?
