In July 2021, 13-year-old Austin Appelbee became a hero when his family's boat began to sink off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

With his mother and younger siblings clinging to a cooler in the water, Austin swam for nearly four hours through shark-populated waters to reach the shore and call for help.

His bravery led to the successful rescue of his entire family.
