Dynamics

Strive for dynamics in your guitar playing. You will have to go back and listen to older music to find gold in this regard. Music today is very monotone, plastic and digital in this decade.

Humbucker

The engineer that designed the “humbucker” pickup was a genius. I love the Fender Stratocaster. It’s my favorite guitar. It’s just the single coil pickupup acts like an antenna and has that annoying 60 cycle hum. This riddle was solved by the engineer that did this.

This is the DBA my Dad helped me record at the Harris County courthouse in Houston Texas when I was 17 years old. We were already gigging and then and we had a gig at a skating rink where we actually made a little bit of money. So it was time to officially be a business.

Tone

To me, your tone is your signature. When I was younger, I worked a lot on my tone on the Piano. The way you touch the Piano has everything to do with the way it sounds when you play it. I learned this from carefully watching Vladimir Horowitz.

I spend at least half of my time playing on an acoustic guitar. I leave them sitting around the house so when I walk past them, I’ll pick them up. My favorite is my Martin and I’ve got a couple of great Spanish guitars.
