Xavier Becerra, candidate for Governor of California, has taken maximum contributions from controversial water barons Stewart and Lynda Resnick.
The Resnicks are the billionaire owners of The Wonderful Company — the agricultural empire behind Fiji Water, POM Wonderful, Wonderful Pistachios, and Halos mandarins. The Resnick's company is one of California’s largest agricultural water interests, frequently cited for being anti-labor.
It’s reasonable to argue it’s still early in the process to be excluding candidates from debates. Filing just closed, and there’s a large amount of undecided voters that deserve to hear from everyone.
But to have a televised debate that covers all the important issues voters need clarity on, you can’t include everyone. 2 hours is just not enough time.
USC chose to cancel this debate virtually the day of, because they refused to accept and admit their flawed methodology that allowed a candidate polling lower than others in the race to participate. Which, let’s be honest, the formula was created to justify his inclusion and the exclusion of the others. That’s not a knock on him, but on the insiders yet again picking and choosing who we get to hear from.
Future hosts of debates need to establish a transparent and uncomplicated methodology ahead of time that applies fairly to everyone.
For example, requiring candidates to meet a minimum polling threshold across multiple independent surveys by X date.
This was a waste of everyone’s time and did a disservice to CA voters that have an important decision to make — choosing their next governor.
I’m running for governor because Californians deserve a life they can afford.
Sacramento politicians are afraid to change this system. I’m not.

We should all feel a deep sense of grief and outrage at the terrible violence that took place in Utah today. Charlie Kirk's murder is sick and reprehensible, and our thoughts are with his family, children, and loved ones.
I knew Charlie, and I admired his passion and commitment to debate. His senseless murder is a reminder of how important it is for all of us, across the political spectrum, to foster genuine discourse on issues that deeply affect us all without resorting to political violence.
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.
Honest disagreement makes us stronger; violence only drives us further apart and corrodes the values at the heart of this nation.
@RepDavidValadao@JeremyBWhite@CaHSRA High speed rail connecting Bakersfield and Merced isn’t a “train to nowhere”, but it’s telling how the Trump admin and you view the residents of the Central Valley.
new - @Villegas_CA22 is mounting a challenge to Rep. David Valadao. He's hoping economic populism will resonate in a purple district that's been a Dem target:

The real reason Texas can't control its border: it needs the migrants too badly.
For 8 months, I've investigated undocumented construction workers, the bosses hiring them, and the politicians who look the other way:

Then Jesus said unto the sick, “you better have insurance.”
Then Jesus said unto the stranger, “are you here legally?”
Then Jesus said unto the hungry, “my taxes better not be paying for these loaves and fishes.”
Then Jesus said unto the poor, “this is your own fault.”
All Californians need access to basic sanitation services — in East Orosi and across the entire state.
California is acting now to help fix failing sewer systems by empowering @CaWaterBoards to step in and support suffering communities.
The body cam footage of Tyreek Hill’s stop and detainment has been released, raising more questions than answers about the Miami-Dade officers’ actions. Was this use of force really necessary?
In the City of Porterville, we celebrated five years of the SAFER program — a program that delivers transformational change to communities like this one.

By reviving a Trump-era asylum ban, President Biden has abandoned our obligations to provide people fleeing persecution, violence, and authoritarianism with an opportunity to seek refuge in the U.S.
My full statement on @POTUS' executive action:
Scripture tells us to rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and be constant in prayer.
On this National Day of Prayer, my prayer is that we keep faith that our best days are ahead of us and continue to believe in honesty, decency, dignity, and respect.
Today, @EPA has established the first nationwide, legally enforceable drinking water standards to protect communities from PFAS in their drinking water. We are one step closer to achieving the Human Right to Water nationwide!
