@MateoSithole@ReginahMhaule True. Worse part is kids are encouraged not to do maths to push up the pass rate. How will SA compete in 4IR world without doing maths and science.
@LizellS @Radio2000ZA Kids can still do certain course without maths. My issue is it seems schools are discouraging kids from doing maths to push the pass rates. Most top universities have these faculties. Sciene, engineering, health science, commerce and humanities. All need maths except humanities.
@Siyabashaya@Pah_blo@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool Yes perception is important. Based on reputation, prestige and history most people won't pick ukzn ahead of UP and UJ irrespective of UKZN current perfomance .
@Pah_blo@Siyabashaya@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool Okay I Wil take your view on it because I didn't study there . I also studied mechanical engineering but at Wits.
@Siyabashaya@Pah_blo@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool I will agree with you that maybe there are not many in UKZN. But ukzn is not part of the top universities that students prefer would to go to. The top is probably UCT, Wits, UP, Uj and Stelle Bosch. The second tier is free state, UKZN, North west, unisa etc.
@Pah_blo@Siyabashaya@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool What did you study at vaal? Which course. Limpopo students are across the whole of SA. I know there is a lot in vaal, tut, wits, unisa. Some go as far as uct, dut, Walter sisulu. I more than 7 friends who completed engineering degrees at UCT while I studied at Wits.
@MLVNREUEEE @fiilthyboi@ReginahMhaule What are, you saying is hogwash? My point is pass rate does not matter that much. What matters is which provinces have more kids passing with critical subjects like maths becoz without it you cant get into science, engineering and built enviroment, commerce and health science ence.
@Pah_blo@Siyabashaya@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool Yes. I am from Limpopo and studied at Wits. I saw that there were a lot of Limpopo kids thee back in 2004 when I studied there. Even in my masters class it was the same. Where did you study? How was the presence of Limpopo kids there. Was it low or high?
@Siyabashaya@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool I agree this view is not fair on small provinces. But the country needs numbers of skilled people not a https://t.co/dNdV26Sa6e real life what matters is the number not percentage. The original tweet said Limpopo will take admission spaces at varsities which is based on numbers .
@Siyabashaya@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool If you look at percentage yes. But what matters is the number of kids who are going to become engineers, doctors, scientists, CAs, economists etc not the percentage. If a province produce 5000 doctors and another's 40 000 which one has done better?
@Anathy_buddha results are misleading. Limpopo is only GP and KZN on kids passing maths. In fact if we look at blacks kids Limpopo is top becoz KZN and GP has a lot of whites&Indians. The kids with maths are the ones who go on to do science, engineering, medicine, IT etc at SA top varsities.
@Aubrey_Senyolo Limpopo is only behind KZN and GP on maths passes. The Limpopo passes are mostly black kids where kzn and GP has a lot of whites, Indians etc. kids with maths qualify to do engineering, medicine, IT, finance, science. That's why you find a lot of black Limpopo kids at varsities.
@nthabiseng_enny @kulanicool We are number three on kids passing maths. Our blacks kids go on to do maths, science, engineering, medicine, IT, finance etc at varsity. You can't do these with no maths. GP has high pass rate but there maths passes as not as high. Limpopo students are found at SA top varsities.
@kulanicool That's because Limpopo has the highest amount of black kids passing maths. It's only behind KZN and GP on maths passes but these two have number high manority students while Limpopo is predominantly black. To do science, engineering, medicine, IT maths is needed.
