It’s the result of a legal settlement after Charles Edward Littlejohn, an IRS contractor, stole and leaked Donald Trump’s confidential tax returns — along with the private financial data of thousands of Americans. He pleaded guilty and got five years in federal prison for it.

Trump sued because the IRS failed to protect his private information. The government settled — just like it does in thousands of other cases. The payout comes from the Judgment Fund, a long‑standing Treasury account used for court judgments under every administration. Trump can’t spend it on pet projects, politics, or anything outside the settlement terms.
So, if Congress wants to talk about “slush funds,” maybe they should start with the one they used to cover up their own scandals — with your money — before pretending a court‑ordered settlement is some kind of secret Trump piggy bank.
