Grimes didn’t touch the ball when embiid came back on the floor in 4th until that shot. The you go I go offense is old and doesn’t work anymore. Move the ball (like nurse claimed they would on media day) and then maybe grimes hits the shot being more in rhythm while getting touches. This loss is on the coach and embiid.
Some thoughts on the Paul George signing:
** This is a huge win for the Sixers. The biggest free agent available picked them. A win for a franchise that has caught plenty of criticism the past few seasons.
**PG fits in perfectly with Maxey and Embiid. Obviously he isn’t in his prime but you almost couldn’t build a more perfect player to play between Maxey and Embiid.
** Credit to Morey for pulling this off. He put the cap space plan together and it worked.
** There is some obvious risk with this. Giving a 34-year old a 4-year, max contract has some potential to be a major problem very quickly. But the Sixers are now a top 5 team in the NBA. It’s hard to say no to a chance to be as good as they should be.
** The only team better than the Sixers in the East are the Celtics — and it is very hard to repeat, an issue the Sixers won’t have to deal with
** The Sixers window to win with Embiid and PG is probably two years. Tons of pressure on them to get it done quickly
** PG still does two things at a pretty elite level — he shoots 3s and he can create his own offense when needed. He has some of the best isolation numbers in the league and he is without question one of the best shooters. He can be the difference between winning a Game 6 in the 2nd round and losing.
I don’t see a realistic path for butler to get traded. Warriors seem to be out. Phx can’t do it without sending Beal elsewhere and Beal having to waive no trade. let’s get weird Denver? Still hoops to go through there. Brooklyn won’t give up assets now when they could sign in offseason with cap space. There isn’t a clear cut team that makes sense right now. Should have traded him to the Sixers in the summer.
