Our annual symposium is where experts share knowledge and best practices on orthopedics, with this year's focus being trauma patients. Physicians, nurses, athletic trainers, physical therapists who attend will earn seven hours of CME/CEU credit. Register: https://t.co/tpZobb66q4
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body; but, that also makes it prone to becoming unstable. The effective “glenoid depth” is one major contributor to shoulder stability. See how a shoulder dislocation (which causes a labral tear) can lead to recurrent instability.
We’ve completed our final preparations at OrthoNebraska Elkhorn. We’re so ready and excited to welcome our patients and the community on Monday, but here's a sneak peek!

"Stem cells" is a hot topic in orthopeadics. Turns out these cells act more like a "healing pharmacy" for the body instead of actually regenerating tissue (ie cartilage, etc). Still learning about how these treatments may help with recovery from injury.

Now that we're in February it won't be long until baseball and softball season start to ramp up. Here's some great advice from one of my partners, Dr. Reynolds, about gearing up for the season. Proper warm up and mechanics are key to avoiding injuries.

There are many factors considered when deciding appropriate treatment for meniscus tears of the knee. What is the tear pattern or location? Is the tear acute or chronic? They're not all treated the same and "tear" doesn't always mean "I need surgery."

Check out our recently published study regarding the cost-effectiveness of PRP injections for knee OA! Hopefully studies like this will help convince insurance carriers that these injections should be covered just like HA/visco injection. OrthoNebraska

Our study from my fellowhip was recently published. Recurrent ACL tears in the NFL - those with previous history of ACL reconstruction had a 25% retear rate vs 9% in those without a history of previous ACL reconstruction. What are we missing? #journeyon

Great example of the fact that it's not necessary for our young athletes to specialize in one sport to achieve success. Playing multiple sports helps prevent injuries and burnout. Best of luck in the game today! Go Chiefs! #stopsportsinjuries#mahomes

I've been getting a lot of questions from patients recently about the use of "stem cells" to treat their joint pain. Beware - there's a lot of misinformation out there.
Remember the old adage - If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

@TerryPettit1 Early sports specialization is a huge problem that we’re just starting to understand. Those that specialize in one sport early in their careers have more injuries and play in fewer games than those that play multiple sports. See pic (MLB) and https://t.co/FW8EYLYHcB (NBA)
So inspiring to hear from Madison Kocian, 2016 USA Gymnastics Olympic gold medalist, about resilience in overcoming adversity. As physicians we have a duty and responsibility in advocating for the patients that trust us with their care. #AOSSM19 @AOSSM_SportsMed
