Lake Kasumigaura has same pattern. Cyanobacteria blooms suddenly disappear and appear again. I want to know what’ the mechanism going on. So far I don’t have clear answer. We may overlook the important variables of climate, watershed, and lake physical and biological processes.

@ProfStoebel I've done the same thing! Total life saver. Only down side I found was not being able to run as many samples at once in the beginning
... so we bought a ton of miniature test tubes and racks. All systems go again! Makes me feel like a giant though.

@EESWindsor No thankfully. A tree fell into the river sometime last night. Blocked most of the channel and this carnage ensued. There was a lot of plastic actually - bottles, polystyrene....we did quite a bit of plastic cleanup while we were there.
