BREAKING: @HoustonChron announces early endorsement of @JamesTalarico
“The Houston Chronicle editorial board rejects Paxton’s self-serving depravity and his loyalty to Washington politics at the expense of everyday Texans. And we enthusiastically endorse James Talarico.”
I’d like a Texas Democratic Party chair more focused on helping us flip seats than scolding Democratic legislators.
Last legislative session was terrible, and that was mostly due to there being 88 Republicans and 62 Democrats. Change the numbers, and the leadership changes.
New: Texas Democratic Party Chair Kendall Scudder backed a proposal calling on his party's lawmakers to abandon GOP House Speaker Dustin Burrows.
Burrows relied on Democratic votes to win the speakership last year. #txlege

@MomsAGAbbott@James_Barragan Just like GamerGate was about ethics in gaming journalism…
“We hear you are…” is doing a lot of work here. You’re spreading a rumor about a woman using a sexual relationship to get access to power. That’s slut shaming of the worst kind.
.@JamesTalarico released his plan to tackle the maternal mortality crisis.
“On Mother's Day, Talarico released a comprehensive policy strategy to support pregnant and postpartum women, as Black women are three times more likely to die from childbirth-related causes.”
This Mother’s Day, @JamesTalarico rolled out his plan to combat the maternal mortality crisis, an issue disproportionately impacting Black mothers.

It’s been a bittersweet Mother’s Day with the loss of our family matriarch, my grandmother Ardith Zwiener. But spending it building flower arrangements for her service with my mom and sister was the best way to celebrate. Tomorrow we lay her to rest at the Texas State Cemetery.
the fight against Republican racial gerrymandering, & strategic prep for the 90th #txlege. For my part, I was honored w/ the Point of Order Champion Award, highlighting my usage of House Rules to fight harmful bills. Your @TexasHDC stands ready to continue work for a better TX.
Last month, we had a fantastic @TexasHDC retreat in HTX! I had a great time connecting with colleagues & hearing from guest speakers like @GovPritzker & Congressional candidate & Tejano star, @bobbypulido425 . We celebrated & reflected on our hard work for TX in the 89th #txlege,
TY @CWA6186 for hosting a critical #MayDay convo. We're in dark times, when a Gov. can expel students & fire professors w/ a tweet. Engaging in protected speech cannot determine if a teacher has a job or a student an edu. I'll keep fighting for speech & labor protections. #txlege
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending @Centro_CHSM's annual Cinco de Mayo Luncheon. It's always an honor to help support this wonderful organization & all the work they do to foster the arts & support the #HD45 community. #txlege
But the audacity of a Mexican American woman saying academic freedom still exists, apparently that’s a scandal for the far right.
The ugly truth is nothing will ever be enough for them until universities are overwhelmingly white like they were 100 years ago.
The fact Cory DeAngeis with Heritage Foundation and Brian Harrison decided to kick off Cinco de Mayo with attacking a Mexican American woman for explaining (ACCURATELY) the anti-DEI law SB 17 tell you everything you need to know.
“Anti-DEI” is racism, pure and simple. #txlege
And furthermore, academic freedom is a good thing! We want professors and grad students to be free to research what they want to research and teach what they want to teach (presuming anyone wants to take the class).
Students are *supposed* to be exposed to a variety of ideas.
The Supreme Court just gutted the Voting Rights Act.
Republican legislatures now have a permission slip to follow Texas’ lead: crack and pack Black and Latino voters, call it politics, and dare anyone to stop them. Last year, Texas House Democrats broke quorum because we saw this coming, and we knew we had to fight back.
The Voting Rights Act was supposed to stop states like Texas from silencing voters of color.
Today’s Supreme Court ruling makes our fight harder — but harder is not impossible, and we are not going anywhere.
